thoughts -

i'm all for a possible madden simulation couple things

1st - we should absolutely do one season with a week of games every week during the offseason, with maybe quarter by quarter score updates

2nd - after that superbowl (which would crown the champ) we should do a "monte-carlo" simulation with as many seasons as possible to see who's the "best" team

This would be great. People doing write-ups/summaries of the game would be ****ing epic, but it might be hard to get everyone to cooperate.

Even if Madden isn't the most accurate simulation, it's still something. And it'd be fun as hell.

Arguing player attributes would never end. Ever.

Madden would be cool, if it included every player drafted, so we wouldn't have to define attributes. But otherwise, yeah it is worthless. No one here can accurately judge attributes.

madden's been out for 20 years - the ratings for every year have to be out there SOMEWHERE

madden 09 has hall of famers as players (complete with ratings from when they were in their prime)

all you've got to do is see what Reggie White was rated as in X year and compare that to the Reggie White in Madden 09 and adjust the rating for all DEs taken from that year accordingly.

here's the QB ratings from madden 09 including the HOFers/all time greats (WARNING - INCLUDES HELLA UNNAMED QBs)

edit - HOLY **** I NEED TO CREATE A NEW DYNASTY INCLUDING THESE GUYS AND DRAFT SAMMY BAUGH

so for this madden thing it looks like there may be enough people to split the work up between for rating players. it would make the rankings easier doing them among fewer people and im sure plenty of people arent interested in this anyway

so far im assuming epip, kkcountry, sarcasticrat, and chuckles are interested in trying to set this up

IMO, lets finish the draft and the final writeups before we start dividing our focus.

TBH, Madden is woefully suited to simulations like this and the sim will prove nothing, so I'd rather just go with what we originally intended.

P.S. Check out Front Office Football if you're into franchise mode football games. I was going to try and set up a 2+2 multiplayer league, but couldn't get 32 confirmed owners and didn't want any CPU-run teams.

Madden, while fun, is a silly idea as an actual ranking method.

It should clearly be every owner ranks the teams 1-30, you get 1 point for being #1 and 30 for being #30 and so on. The team with the lowest amount of points wins.

Round 21, Pick 718
Will Smith, DE

Will Smith is a consistent pass rush off the edge and 6'3" 282 pounds large enough to spell anyone along the defensive line. He made a pro bowl in 2006 and his first four years in the league sack totals are 7.5, 8.5, 10.5, and 7.5. In 2008 "the Saints agreed to terms with Smith on a six-year, $70 million contract with $26 million guaranteed. This deal makes him the 3rd highest paid defensive end in the NFL." He plays on a defense without much resembling talent and the team obviously believes he is valuable. All I am asking is for him to spell my defensive line and play some defensive tackle on passing downs. This will ensure that both Trent Cole and Michael Strahan are able to rest enough to produce the entire game (mostly Cole). When Smith is on the field I don't feel like my production drops too much and like the value in round 21.

From his Saints biography:

Quote:
No player with the Saints nears Smith’s 33.5 sacks since he joined the team in 2004, and the former No. 1 pick has been an equally disruptive force against the run during that span. In only his second year as a full-time starter, Smith followed his Pro Bowl season of 2006 with another solid performance, battling through double-teams the entire year to notch a team-high seven sacks, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and a safety. He also led the defensive front with 65 tackles while setting the tone for the defense with his toughness, effort and relentless play. Through his first four seasons, Smith has started 43 of 62 games and notched 265 tackles (179 solo) and knocked down 12 passes. He has been particularly adept at creating turnovers throughout his career, forcing 12 fumbles and recovering six – including a five-game stretch from 2004-05 where he caused a fumble in each contest. Smith was selected 18th overall in 2004 after an honor-filled career at Ohio State and has only missed two games in his career since.
FWIW he is one of the many players involved in the whole diuretic scandal and is facing suspension next year for four games.

From scout.com "Smith gets great leverage off the snap, thanks to his explosiveness and good upper body strength."

Will Smith on WILL SMITH:

Quote:
Will Smith can cause quite the buzz.

There was the time the New Orleans Saints defensive end had a dinner reservation at a fancy New York restaurant. The staff made certain that a secluded table saved for impressive VIPs was secured. Red-carpet treatment waited.

When Smith arrived there was, well, confusion.

"They told me, 'We thought it was the actor,' " Smith recalled this week from his cellphone, hustling on a busy day off. "But hey, I'm just a football player. I'm a nobody."

Despite his increasing prominence in the NFL — the third-year pro earned his first Pro Bowl selection and led the Saints with 10½ sacks — Smith sometimes disappoints strangers for who he is not.

A limousine driver once hired to meet him at Miami International Airport was so excited with the passenger that he was about to receive that he called several relatives.

Then a big letdown.

"Happens all the time," Smith says. "But to me, it's such a common name. Do you know how many William Smiths there are?"

This one is a junior. His father, William Sr., was called Billy. So when Smith is around family, he's B.J. — Billy Junior.

"But to the rest of the world," he says, "it's Will."

Smith, 25, has never met his more famous namesake, but it sure seems like it. He figures he was in middle school, growing up in Utica, N.Y., when the other Smith made a mark as a rapper before he began acting and achieved fame as the star of a popular sitcom.

"I've been hearing the Will Smith jokes ever since The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," Smith says. "I get a kick out of it. But obviously, it gets old real quick."

The Pursuit of Happyness? Smith, a movie buff, saw that Will Smith's latest blockbuster shortly after it was released in December and loved it. It ranks among his favorite Will Smith flicks. Says Smith, "I love his work."

I was very impressed with Will Smith this season. He didn't get many sacks this season, but in the 37-32 win over the Chargers earlier this season he was dominant in the run game. In fact, I was so disgusted that I left the stadium and I whistled for a cab and when it came near, the license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror. If anything I can say this cab is rare, but I thought now forget it - yo homes to bel air. I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8 and I yelled to the cabbie yo homes smell ya later. I looked at my kingdom, I was finally there to sit on my throne as the prince of bel air.

lol do you think he could play inside on passing downs and spell Keith Hamilton or Bryant Young? Skill wise I am not sure but he has the size and is known as a total package. Obv I would not use him there too much but due to roster size restrictions I do not plan to take a backup defensive tackle... and no way Cole or Strahan can move inside.

Or can I pick up undrafted player to fill out my roster? I don't remember...

Here are my picks...

TE - Daniel Graham (average receiver but an absolute stud blocking TE)
LB - Ernie Sims

Writeups for Dockery, Givens, Graham, and Sims coming tomorrow.

I considered Daniel Graham at Kyle Brady spot.

Everyone says Ernie Sims is a great young player and I watch every Lions game but don't quite see it. To be fair the entire defense is a ****ing trainwreck to the point where in his prime Derrick Brooks would not jump off the screen either. ****ing Lions. Die.
