NFL Draft 2021 NFL Draft 2021

02-17-2021 , 04:54 AM
The NFL Offseason is in full swing! And while MANY quarterback dominoes have yet to fall at the time of this writing, EVERYone is looking ahead to the eternal spring of optimism the draft provides!

In last year's thread, in a crowded receiver class, I gave this community Justin Jefferson, who turned out to be a record-setting rookie receiver.

According to Mel Kiper, nobody bats 1.000 in this gig, but I, emboldened by my past success, I wanted to go on the record with my biggest call of this draft cycle.

I'm an SEC elitist. I accept it as a given that Devonta Smith will have at least as much NFL success as, say, Amari Cooper. I also think Najee Harris is better than, and will have more NFL success than, say, a Saquon Barkley (who went to an overhyped, second-rate B1G school and has been otherwise, hurt). I'll go on the record right now and say that while both will be fine, Najee Harris > Travis Etienne. Same with Ja'Marr Chase (WR, LSU). He'll be fine, nobody's gonna regret drafting him.

But my biggest call of this draft is that Kyle Pitts (TE, UF) is the greatest TE prospect I've ever seen.

It's the old Marshall Faulk problem from 2001: Those that can tackle him, can't cover him. Those that can cover him, can't tackle him. INSANE catch radius. ABSURD ball skills. The most deadly pass-catching weapon at the point of attack IN THIS DRAFT.

Maybe he's not the best blocker on the line against NFL edge rushers at "only" 6'6, 240. But those ball skills will play up, and impact games for whomever drafts him.

He's being mocked in the top 8, so he's not sneaking up on anybody. But mark my words, Kyle Pitts is gonna be AWESOME... and as a Falcons fan, I really hope he doesn't go to the Panthers... and that is all.

Beyond the skill position guys, it'll be interesting to see who lands Penei Sewell (OT, Ore), who's generally regarded as the ONLY best LT prospect. Certainly between at least the Bengals and the Dolphins, he'll draw some interest.

I haven't really made up my mind with what I want my Falcons to do at 4. Obviously (hopefully), we won't be drafting here in anytime in the near future, so maybe we should take that QB of the Future... whether it's Fields or Lance or Wilson. New administrations tend to mean new QB's.

But I'd be fine with trading back. I don't think Matty Ice is set for the glue factory just yet (famous last words), and if we can pick up a 1st, and also add to the team THIS YEAR, I'd be for it.

It's too bad there's not a generational edge rusher (like a spare Bosa brother) in this draft that would be there, because that's clearly our greatest need.

Draft season is upon us! No combine this year due to Covid, only pro days. What are YOU looking forward to?

Great OP!

The Jets have a lot of needs and I'm not really sold on any QB at #2 to become a bonafide franchise QB, so I'd rather them *not* draft a QB. However the Jets have a new coach and a GM who didn't take Darnold, so it's prolly likely that they want to draft "their guy" to develop at QB.

Obviously I'm really hoping that they deal the #2 along with other picks for DeShaun Watson.

Might be the craziest QB draft in a long time.

Najee being better than Saquon is definitely saying something.

Saquon really hasn't played on a functional NFL team in his career so far..

dolphins wish list:

1. sell tua down the river to get deshaun
2. hold at 3 and draft chase
3. trade down
4. hold at 3 and draft a qb and sell tua down the river
5. hold at 3 and draft sewell
100. hold at 3 and draft devonta smith

i saw a mock that made a lot of sense. was 2 qbs going 1/2, and then dolphins flipping their pick for another qb needy team to draft the third. then the dolphins took smith in their new spot. don't think there's much upside in building around 2 guys with mediocre physical tools, but at least we'd get extra picks...

any team that thinks they even remotely have their future QB on the roster and passes on Sewell to draft someone else (unless they have an all-pro at LT right now) is making a mistake. He's 6'6", 330, and doesn't turn 21 until October.

not claiming he's perfect, and i think the video below is a fair breakdown of what he does well and what he can improve on, but pretty much everything he can improve on is teachable and reachable.

I would love it if the Giants traded up to draft him!

My Miami wishlist:

Trade down from 3., trade up from 18. and get Parsons and Rousseau/Paye.

Great edge rushers are often only available in the top half of the first round and I don't see Miami drafting there again for a while. With their elite secondary they need to be able to get pressure without all out blitzes. Also Parsons will help their mediocre run defense.

Other than running backs offensive players tend to take a while to hit their prime while front seven players often are close to their peak right away.

Address the offense more in FA and outside the first round. Need an elite defense vs 1. Josh twice a year

Draft buzz has Zach Wilson rising to the Jets at #2

I still haven't made up my mind if I want the Falcons to take a QB at 4, but the only one I'd want if he's there is Fields, I think.

The latest scoop is that the Jets are gonna roll it back with Darnold, trade the #2 pick to Atlanta for the #4 and more assets, and look to acquire TE Kyle Pitts.

I'd be pretty ecstatic if that happens.

all signs point to Pitts being be a 20 year TE
Spoiler:
as in a talent classified as a TE (who really has WR skills) that only comes along once every 20 years and the NFL is more than happy to consider him as a TE so they don't have to pay him WR $$$

On The Herd they talked about how they consider him the #2 WR on the draft board lol

The last multi-dimensional 20 year old TE to come out of Florida worked out really well.

i said 20 year, as in once every 20 year talent, not as in a 20 year old with the brain of an 80 year old psychokiller.

Is this just Mel Kiper's wild ass narrative? I'd love ATL to get Wilson, but I'd like to see some evidence they are even thinking about it.

Nah I also read some New Jersey based articles online about that same scenario too.

So I imagine the story definitely has some real legs.

Not pleased to see the 9ers move ahead of the Falcons to 3

If they take Lance, the Falcons can take Fields, and I'd be fine with that.

I don't think I want a QB at 4 if Fields isn't there.

As a lions fan I'm hoping Sewell falls to 7. I'd be cool with Chase,Pitts,or Parsons as well. Kind of meh on D.Smith would prefer going a diff player.

Annoyed the Fins traded one spot in front of us. I feel like their going to grab the guy we should take.

Seems slim chance he falls to 7 with the Bengals. Would be pretty surprising if they pass on him

Would kind of like to see Burrow limp to the podium and announce Sewell at 5.

Yeah I don't see Sewell getting past the Bengals, they clearly need him too much

I'm not expecting him to fall. I've seen it in a couple mocks with is surprising to me as hes obv a stud prospect. Its possible they fall in love with Pitts or something though. If not I guess Chase/Pitts/Parsons will do for me.
