Jackson rejecting the 49ers job just highlights how much smarter he is than most other coaches

got this from windy city gridiron (a bears fan site) today

"Rob Ryan has coordinated NFL defenses for 12 years, with 4 different franchises and he's only had 1 team end up with a winning record. During his 12 year run he's only had one defense finish better than 13th in points allowed. His defenses have finished better than 14th in yards allowed just twice."

lol well at least the Bills are eligible for Hard Knocks.

Low scouts in some organizations are simply information gatherers. Usually when you speak it's defending your reports. I think the biggest issue is that scouting is usually sink or swim because there's nowhere in the org to go to learn and improve. They would let you in meetings but you have no free time to attend. For college scouts, you basically spend all day driving whatever hours it takes to get to your assigned school that day, go watch hours of everyone mostly random unathletic guards nobody will draft in the film room, ask around for questions about the players and try to filter the BS, and then after what would be a normal work day for everyone else ends you get to spend the next 5 hours writing a bunch of reports up in the hotel room and do it all the next day every day until you get fired after the draft ends (they only keep you around that long so you won't leak info) and when the GM gets canned, well so did you.

Yet they get a ton of people wanting in despite a low paying sucking balls job. Go figure.

Teams spend more than enough on scouting. They already have cross checks on reports and everything, having more people than that just creates more chaos in the draft room. They already gave their opinion in the report nath. (at least some orgs ask for scouts to grade players, everyone is different obviously)

I'd say willingness to kill and a disregard for human life are very positive attributes for projecting football success.

What about GRIT, MOTOR and BEING A STUDENT OF THE GAME?

Haha. Considering what tubs most coaches are, I find it hard to believe any of them could be described as having "motor."

I think the real question is whether or nor this hidden racism is better or worse than it is in the rest of corporate America.

(not that a result of "the same" means the NFL is doing ok, just that it's not a shocker that these results come up given how white males tend to always dominate these sorts of studies)

Hue Jackson had a 2nd interview with the Browns today. He has an interview with the Giants this week but rumors are Cleveland is going to offer him the job soon.

Why anyone would even take the Cleveland job is beyond me. Youll just get fired if you dont instantly make the playoffs.

If they do manage to get Jackson these are the types of hires that make it seem like they'll have a few years at least. Then again, it's Cleveland

If you can get guaranteed money with a buyout is it that bad of a deal?

5 years @4.5 mil a year with

You work for one year, get fired and then get a $10 million plus payout.

Is working one year worth ~$15 million??

Never underestimate how much money plays into this kinda situations. Walk away with $15 million and then go back to OC? Retire?

Jackson ain't that smart. I mean he chose to be the HC of the Raiders during the senile Al Davis days.

I doubt he had many head coaching choices at the time.

I'm betting against Hue Jackson as a head coach. Don't remember how he did in Oakland other than going 8-8 after losing Jason Campbell and going 6-0 within the division. I bet his name makes the title of the thread before he departs Cleveland.

Doesn't seem like a leader of men and just getting the job because he's good at his current job. Whether I'm right or wrong, I don't understand why teams don't look to see if a prospective head coach has the qualities to actually be a head coach.

Jim Caldwell was hired twice. That's enough proof teams are using the next in line approach
