That said, the Chiefs defense has gotten a ton better than early in the year. The national pundits are slowly catching up.

Here's how you can tell if a national pundit has a clue. If they're claiming to explain how the Chiefs D got better, they should mention a majority of these things:
  1. Jones moving inside (most of them get that one)
  2. Thornhill over Sorenson (maybe half get this one)
  3. Frank Clark suddenly playing better than he ever has as a Chief (none of them get this one)
  4. Melvin Ingram giving the Chiefs a legit 4-man rush, or maybe 3.5 with Reed
  5. Nnadi beasting against the run
  6. Willie Gay and Nick Bolton getting better every week (Gay was injured to start the year)
  7. Fenton, Sneed and Ward possibly the best 3-CB group in the NFL right now (Mike Hughes started over Fenton early, Ward was injured for a few games)

The Chiefs biggest problem on defense is they have zero depth. They've gotten super lucky this year that basically everyone is healthy with 6 games left in the season. If we have to play Mike Hughes, Ben Niemann, or Dan Sorenson a majority of the snaps due to injury, we're in deep ****. Only on the DL are they kind of deep - but no one can consistently rush the passer outside of Ingram, Clark and Jones.
Agree that their D is balling and it is because of tangible changes + health rather than just running good but they did get some nice reffing in that game as well.

Gallup was PI'd in the end zone and not called, few other PI's were close. Chiefs had to be thinking where was this leeway in the SB.

Offense still looks like Hill is the only player on the field that can threaten teams. Kelce has gotten better last few weeks but brutal drop led to Mahomes INT.

Hasn't been a murderer's row of teams with Kyler out but going 2-1 with wins @SF and @SEA is prettay, prettay good. They're the best in a year of no truly great teams. But admittedly I am not following the Kyler injury very closely so I'm not accounting for how serious it is.

The Hall of Very Good

2. Bucs (7-3) (up 3)
3. Packers (8-3)
4. Rams (7-3)
5. Bills (6-4) (down 3)
6. Chiefs (7-4) (up 2)
7. Cowboys (7-3)
8. Titans (8-3) (down 2)
9. Pats (7-4)

Bucs aren't elite because they are dogshit on the road. WTF Bills, making me look bad -- actually I like decent value on SB bet if they lose another soon, which could happen with their next 3 (@NO, NE, @TB). Chiefs definitely back. Cowboys are still good. Titans probably dropping completely out of this tier next week when they lose to the Pats.

The Good

10. Ravens (7-3)
11. Bengals (6-4)
12. Colts (6-5) (up 3)
13. Chargers (6-4) (down 1)
14. Browns (6-5) (down 1)
15. Vikings (5-5) (up 2)
16. Niners (5-5) (up 2)

No comment, this tier is Russian roulette. Vikings/Chargers/Colts just take the points whenever you get them.

The Bad

17. Saints (5-5) (down 3)
18. Eagles (5-6) (up 4)
19. Steelers (5-4-1) (down 3)
20. Raiders (5-5) (down 1)
21. Panthers (5-6)
22. Broncos (5-5) (up 1)
23. Seahawks (3-7) (down 3)
24. Football Team (4-6) (up 1)
25. Dolphins (4-7) (up 2)

The Ugly

26. Falcons (4-6) (down 2)
27. Bears (3-7) (down 1)
28. Giants (3-7)
29. Jets (2-8) (up 1)
30. Texans (2-8) (up 2)
31. Jaguars (2-8)
32. Lions (0-9-1) (down 3)

Bills are not the best team in the AFC. They're lucky they finish with home games vs Falcons and Jets because without that they might miss the playoffs. Not outside the realm of possibility they lose to Siemian this week.

It's hard to give the Titans a pass for that mess (especially since they also lost to the Jets) but the weather was insane and they didn't have their RB1, RB2 and WR2, and their WR1 and WR3 left early. Should have everyone back before post-season and have an easy schedule to get there.

Seahawks and Russ are really, really bad. Should just shut him down for the season, fire Pete and regroup

I'm kind of liking how Pitt is coming together - you can see how their play is affected by injuries - last week it was offense hurt, this week defense. Healthy, it seem pretty clear they're the best team in their division. Their offensive line is going to be mediocre at best keeping them from being a top tier team, but if they can get healthy the last 6 games, they will be very good.

Losses to Miami (25), New Orleans (17), Bucs (2) and Cowboys (7), but those latter two are by very thin margins.

I like the analysis. To me just eyeballing, that makes them the 8th to around 12th best team or so.

Pats are just well coached, solid, not flashy, strong defense. I think teams with more talent at skill positions can brute force them but there aren't a ton of those teams this year.
