I didn't know Fisher ever left the competition committee, he's been on it for years. I've always been confused by that; he's been part of all the changes in favor of the offense. Maybe because he can handle defense but offense confuses him, idk.

this is the key imo. I'm not even paying attention right now; media "news" coverage (sports and otherwise) is completely OOC and has been for a while. Every single thing that happens simply isn't news.

(like the banner headlines recently about an American 48-yo known addict who had prescription drugs in her hotel room. what, no report on the pillows and the bathrobe?!?)

He won't want to be there, they just need to let the reasoning leak out, so that the fans can digest it. Irsay's missteps will help him in the end because he'll be the heel but get what he wants.

I honestly don't think Peyton is going to make it back. The neck is tricky, nerves are tricky, and you can't make them work any faster. It will probably take him years to fully regenerate those pathways. it's not easy to do, nor a sure thing.

IN OTHER NEWS:

looks like it's going to be tirico and gruden alone in the booth next year. i'm going to miss jaws, the more sophisticated commentary there is in the booth the better imo. hopefully gruden will pick up the slack there and lay off the "every player in the league is awesome!"

As a 10+ year vet, the minimum Peyton can play for is around 925k.

If Irsay somehow offered him only the minimum, which isn't going to happen, then yeah, Peyton still controls where he plays.

ok, but you're being awfully literal about this.

Peyton has repeatedly said he wants to be in Indy.

I don't know why anyone thinks Colts don't plan on competing for 2-3 years. If Peyton is healthy, they are competing immediately.

Jaws booted from the MNF booth to spend more time in the studio. Berman next, one time?

I could barely take gruden at 33%. At 50%, no thanks. gg MNF

Gruden is so painful. He constantly makes the most absurb claims about random players being the best at random football plays.

"Nobody can make that specific block on the corner like Thomas Jones"
"No one is quicker to a fumble than Denarius Moore"

Play 10+ games this season get half the bonus, 10+ next year get other half. If he sucks now coach won't let him play 10 games...that would be my offer +- some winning tweaks or whatnot and maybe an accelerator that gives him the entire bonus if he has an elite first year back right away etc..

I'm sure Peyton does want to play in Indy but I don't know how much of a pay cut he'd really be willing to take to do it. It's one thing to talk it up when you've got a massive bonus coming, something else entirely when you're cut and become a free agent. More so knowing your old team is about to draft an elite prospect intended to replace you.

The Colts have a cap to manage and I doubt Peyton will want to settle for a smallish contract to stay there. I can see him giving Indy a small discount relative to other offers but within reason. And Irsay would need to come up with something short term with minimal risk, and way more reasonably priced given the risk.

What I don't see is the Colts as a contender right now. If they managed some kind of showing with Manning out this past season, even 7 wins or something, yeah maybe that's reasonable. But they're going to have a net loss in talent due to money issues and Peyton has questionable health so hard to see them doing anything.

EDIT: And that's if Peyton can return to form which is very questionable. I wouldn't really take the guy on his word at this point.

jfyi, if those reports are what you want, look no further than every single cable news channel.

on the plus side, whitney news seems to have mostly supplanted "crazy **** who chopped up his kids and blew up his house" news.

Peyton apparently had 4 surgeries, not 3

He also was lobbying to be red zone QB for the Colts in December

also people at a super bowl party were talking about Carter being snubbed by the HOF again (that topic gets Vikings fans really mad). someone was blabbing about how the selection process is a joke and then said he was the 2nd greatest WR of all time, i almost spit out my food and then berated him for saying something so preposterous and then a few other dudes joined in and took the other guys side. i didn't think i would ever hear someone say Carter > Moss. Moss has been all over sports talk radio the past couple days and they are just savaging him, he definitely gets the haters mad around here

Peyton wanted to come back for the last two games and play red zone opportunities? Now we know why Orlovosky inexplicably WIMed it over the Texans.

If you're in a room with Vikings fans seriously trying to argue Carter > Moss, don't even bother.

Um...Dolphins/Cards make sense. I see no reason for him to play outdoors in the northeast. Seattle...uhhh, Pete Carroll...so...no..

Also in 2013 sounds like the Jaguars will no longer have Teal as a color instead it will be black. Can't say I'm disappointed.

Mike Shanahan is a notorious control freak.

Peyton Manning calls his own plays, 100% of the time.

don't see how that could work.

BUT

Skins have a good defense, and that could be enticing to Manning who might relinquish some control if he could go there.

BUT x2

There were reports that in w17 he couldnt even throw a pass over 20 yards in practice when he was running redzone offense with the colts during the week.

Guys, I think he's done.

My guess is his most likely destination is retirement if he can't work something out with the Colts. The medical info that keeps coming to light is only getting worse and even if he can play that's probably something he's concerned with as far as long term health. I'm not sure he'll want to chance it just to go start for some new team and tool around until he falls apart.

Except for the fact that Peyton and Rex wouldn't get along, I agree.
