Gonna be a ton of OT talent in the 2nd round of this draft at the rate we are going.........too bad SF doesn't need it this year.

Nice writeup, tweedy.

Taylor a good choice for the Chiefs here.

Saints may also be interested in trading down-- we had a preliminary offer from lifes3ps for a Saints/Broncos trade but he is gone for the day and we haven't been able to finalize anything.

Surprised IND wants to trade down as I think there's an obvious choice for them here.

Also, if anyone wants to take over for Miami, you're free to do so

Yeah, I made the pick before checking my PMs. I would have traded back for sure

With the 22nd pick, the Indianapolis Colts select

Spoiler:
Offensive Tackle from Boston College
Anthony Castonzo
Spoiler:

A four year starter who never missed a start. Fantastic technique, especially in pass protection. Could stand to add some strength, as he sometimes doesn't loses the LOS in rushing situations. Could be a better anchor. Undrafted from the Pac 10 might have more upside, but Castonzo can come in and start immediately, protecting Manning's blindside. While Indianapolis only allowed 16 sacks last season, Manning was under heavier duress than years past. Tony Ugoh never panned out, and this move will allow Charlie Johnson to move to guard.

Will wait a few minutes before Eagles pick - waiting for offers

Interesting. I say "interesting" because he was the 3rd-rated tackle on my board. I think people's boards for OT vary greatly.

Nath, that's partly why a team needing a tackle right now should trade back. 1-6 are very close, imo

I had him as my #2. Good pick though; not as raw as Smith amirite?

Correct imo. Lower ceiling (barely) but can start now.

Problem is that there aren't any standouts at any position that are worth trading up for, unless a team really falls in love with a particular guy. Since none of us are actually doing our own scouting, that's not going to happen.

No worries. We made the TB pick for you and I think it's a good one. You still have the Bucs, Jets, and half the Pats... you can take the lead on the Dolphins if you'd like, too

You're probably right that they wouldn't actually take Mallett, although they're kidding themselves if they really think Henne is the solution. People love to say that the Dolphins have busted constantly at QB since Marino, but the fact is that they haven't taken a QB in the first round since Marino!

The other issue is that they don't pick again until #79, so if they don't get a QB now, they won't be able to land one of the top six guys. Ingram is the more obvious choice-- and probably the one they make-- but I'd be inclined to go a different direction were I running the team.
Sorry guys was on a spring break trip just got back. I can take over Miami again.

I don't hate the Ingram pick but Miami's biggest needs are at O-line and QB. I probably would have taken Pouncey, even though that would be overdrafting him for sure. Mallet might have been an option but I'm not convinced he will be significantly better than Henne and starting over at QB with a huge question mark seems pretty blah.

The Dolphins resigned Incognito. While he sucks at Guard he played well at Center the couple games he was there. If he is moved permanently to Center the Dolphins have that need taken care of, but then need massive upgrades at Guard. Pouncey would fit great.

All right, we'll give you Miami back. I did think about going QB with that choice but I also concluded that there wasn't enough value in picking Mallett there.

With the 23rd pick, the Philadelphia Eagles select

Spoiler:
Offensive Tackle from USC
Tyron Smith

Spoiler:
A tough choice between Smith and undrafted from the Big 10, but Smith won out in the end for his athleticism. With Vick's mobility and a good running game, Smith's ability to operate in space will fit in perfectly in this offense. He's only 20, so the Eagles may have their franchise LT for the next 12 years. Smith has the highest upside of any OT in this class, and his only weaknesses are technique - hand placement and footwork. Time with an NFL offensive line coach and experience will remedy his technique problems. With Jason Peters at LT, Smith can start at RT (Vick's blindside) and Justice can slide inside to OG. The OL was below average in pass protection, and in the last 3- weeks of the regular season and the wild card playoff game - they were absolutely awful. Smith is just another piece in the most athletic offense in the NFL.

Bleh. I was going to snap up Tyron Smith with the Saints' pick even though that wasn't their biggest area of need. Don't feel as high on Solder especially since we don't need a guy who can start right away.

I'm not a huge fan of Solder. Have him 6th. Love Carimi.

After that pick Saints definitely interested in trading down.

Carimi is the one most likely to slide inside, right? The Saints are set there with Nicks and Evans (and Matt Tennant if he ends up being the staring center). Tyron Smith could have sat a year and he and Charles Brown could have been our bookend tackles of the future.

Instead gonna look at trading down or other options.

So... lifes3ps is gone for the day but he offered me a trade-- The Saints' #24 for the Broncos' #36 and #67. It was only a first offer, not a permanent one, but I would like to accept and make it happen.

Obviously with him gone, I'd need some outside objective opinion.

My biggest argument in favor of the trade is that he sent me his draft boards, and I'm going to take the guy that's on the top of his Denver board (who I think is BPA right now based on the rankings I've found) if he doesn't make the trade. So in that sense the trade would really benefit him.

What do you guys think?

Trade is fine. He's taking Liuget right?
NFL 2011 Mock Draft Thread Quote
03-20-2011 , 05:07 PM
Right, and Liuget is both A)The only DT on his board and B)the top of my current board for the Saints-- but I'd rather have multiple picks to throw at the Saints' front seven.
