This trade seems very out of character for Parcells.

Im a huge Phins fan and I am not sure how I should feel after this trade. Ive never known whats its like to have a true elite receiver my entire life. Its unfamiliar territory. I think at the very least it makes next year exciting. Ginn might actually be decent threat alongside Marshall.

The bonus is atleast we wont make a huge **** up and take Bryant now. Williams/Thomas (no JPP) please!

Bill's always had a soft spot for the h00gest d00ds at any given position.

I know you are just supposed to ignore the trolls, but every post you've made is either dogging henne/parcells or defending slowplaying. I don't get it.

As to the contract, it's a little more than I expected tho I assumed he would get at least 10mm/yr. I like the fact that it's a 4 year deal and I think that should help to keep him on his toes a little. Hopefully he plays well for 3 years and they renegotiate.

Also, if the Fins can manage to trade back they could recoup a 2nd rounder which would be great. Plz trade back to 21, draft Kindle/Graham and then get a good DT/S in the 2nd.

I still don't get why teams value draft picks so much. If you're planning on picking a WR in the first round, the absolute best case scenario is someone as good as Brandon Marshall, and in all likelihood the pick will be much, much worse. And you have to pay them a bunch of money, just like Marshall. Of course he's slightly older, but that can't matter that much. A first rounder for Marshall seems like a turbo fistpump snapcall.

Financial commitment + age.

Marshall went in the 4th round. That's the best case, because then you're paying him a pittance for what you got.

lol you realize Boldin caught 100 passes in his rookie year with a scrub QB at the helm right? oh and fitz was in college. gtfo clown.

Casual fans don't realize how valuable draft picks are because they're so fixated on superstars.

And your team will continue to age and my team will always be getting younger. Its the NFL, its a young mans game.
04-14-2010 , 01:17 PM
brandon marshall is 26 and which is in the early prime years, he should still be just as good if not maybe even slightly better in the next few years and shouldn't start to significantly decline before 30 barring injuries which happens to everyone. the nfl is a win now league not a young mans league and marshall gives me by far a better chance of winning now than 2 2nd rounders will who will very likely be busts/decent players.

Last year the #12 pick was signed for 5/23, 13gtd. So it's about double what they would pay a rookie that could possibly bust, OR come out blazing and put together 2 awesome years and then sit out until they renegotiate their contract.
04-14-2010 , 01:18 PM
I mean, you are a fan of a team that more often than not gets rid of a player for draft picks. Yeah they've acquired a guy or two by giving up some picks but the Pats accumulate a lot of picks.

But I look at other successful teams in the Steelers and Colts and its picks not players. I look at a team on the rise like the Cardinals and its the same for them. I thought the Dolphins were one of those teams but I was wrong.
04-14-2010 , 01:19 PM
Epi,

you're just wrong, and any look at how teams fill out their starting lineups with players picked beyond the 1st round will show that.
04-14-2010 , 01:21 PM
And have we not learned that its not necessary to find WRs early? *sigh* I don't have the energy to argue this further. Good teams hold onto and acquire picks. Bad teams give up picks all the time. I'll take the Steelers going to playoffs for years than go for a team that puts all their eggs in one basket for "win now."

All the good GMs and owners know its not "win now" but stay young and keep the window open for as long as possible. Get hot in December and go on a run in the playoffs. That is, the good ones. I guess we can discuss the bad ones.
04-14-2010 , 01:23 PM
They are, one move to fill a need they've struggled with for years isn't negating all that. As long as this doesn't become a trend, and it won't under parcells, then it's a fine example of seizing an opportunity to fill a need.
04-14-2010 , 01:24 PM
disagree, what bad teams constantly trade away their picks for current stars? I can't think of any. I can however think of getting wes welker and randy moss for highway robbery in the form of giving up 2nd and 4th round picks.
04-14-2010 , 01:25 PM
B Marshall is >> Bolden in a football sense. Boldin trade still probably better
04-14-2010 , 01:25 PM
You were wrong based on ONE deal in which the Phins got a top5 WR in the league?

If anything Parcells is amazing at getting value, not necessarily picks or players, but value. He obv sees positive value in this trade.

29 year old football player with a few injuries in his past. We'll see how long he lasts.
