The bears need Peppers?

They've got a pretty decent rotation at DE, its pretty far down the list of bears needs.

This came up a few years ago (I can't remember with who; I think the team was the Jets). They were trying to sign someone who had a 3rd round tender, but they didn't have a 3rd round pick, so they were trying to trade with someone else to acquire a 3rd round pick to sign the offer sheet. I can't remember exactly what the resolution was, but I'm pretty sure the team ended up being unable to get a 3rd round pick and thus were not allowed/chose not to sign the player.

However, I'd have a hard time believing the league doesn't have some sort of alternative rule for this. Maybe something like if a team doesn't have a 3rd to give up this year, they can give up a 2nd next year (or agree to some sort of compensation with the other team). That's just me speculating though.

all the tenders of RFA's. there are certainly some very interesting bargains in there imo:

Kirk Morrison, ILB (3rd round tender) he just turned 28, and is a very solid player. i expect someone to snatch him up

William Gay, CB (5th round tender) while nothing spectacular, hes at the least a pretty good stop gap for only a 5th rounder. hes only 25

and then 3 guys who will be expensive but could very easily be worth it-
Brandon Marshall, WR
Ray Edwards, DE
Antoine Bethea, S (Cover 2)

all 1st round tender, and all are pretty young and proven commodities

Yeah, the Raiders are basically letting Morrison walk, which is really surprising.
03-04-2010 , 04:09 PM
Walking is nothing to Al, he just wants people who can run.

Bears rotation is crappy now. Ogunleye is gone and Gaines Adams died. We need a pass rush, safety help, OLine help, and a RB

The Seahawks tendered Rob Sims and Darryl Tapp with only a original pick (4th round and 2nd round, respectively) tenders. I wouldn't be surprised if teams come sniffing at both, esp. Sims.

Chargers had a change of heart and gave Sproles a 1st/3rd tender. I can't imagine this is good news as a Jet fan, as Leon Washington just became way more attractive to teams needing a RB.
03-04-2010 , 05:44 PM
Bushrod for a 2nd seems like good value, no?
03-04-2010 , 05:52 PM
Only intriguing deal on there I can see is TJack for a 3rd rounder. That's a pretty decent option for a team like STL. I'd rather have TJack in the 3rd than Colt McCoy in the 2nd. Orton for a late first would be ok, but (not coincidentally) all the teams that need a QB really badly have early firsts.

I guess. I think anyone decent can play for the Saints and look pretty good at LT. There was little drop between him and Evans.

Stay away from TJAX and Ray Edwards! Fred Evans for a 2nd you can have though!

This, except for the Running Back.

However, I have a pretty good feeling that the Bears will either be outspent for Peppers or Lovie won't get around to calling him until he has already signed with another team.

"You meant FA signings were this Friday?"

Interesting that they did this, doesn't this mean that they are overpaying for him? It seems nuts that he is getting higher tenders than Marshall and some others. As far as Washinton goes, I don't know if too many teams are looking to sign someone off that serious a leg injury even if he is young. There are already some servicable options out there who have been realeased, and I imagine the Jets plan on keeping him given that they let Thomas Jones go.

It's a supply and demand thing. Under normal circumstances, no way is Sproles worth that much, but this year teams are going to be more apt to sign bigger contracts for the few UFAs out there. It's why I think the Seahawks should probably have franchised Burleson. No, he's not worth nearly as much as the top 5 receivers in the league, but this year under these circumstances, with an uninspiring crop of receivers in the draft and a wafer thin FA market, keeping him around so the team has one less thing to worry about is probably worth it.

lol SD is dumb

leon has been one of my favorite jets since his rookie year and i dont wanna see him go, but i would have no problem letting him go for a 2nd round pick, especially considering he needs a long term deal
03-04-2010 , 09:15 PM
I've never heard so much about tenders in other offseasons
03-04-2010 , 09:16 PM
the uncapped year is why, teams are much more willing to possibly throw a contract at a good player

also, the chargers released NT Jamal Williams??

Odds on 1st FA signing being a Redskin?
