This is my opinion as well. It would be dumb to say hes a great QB and forget about his past problems, but he has made some great strides in the past 4 weeks. Everyone has been wondering if Eli could make the next step (or 3 steps) that you expect from QB's, and I don't think its crazy to say he has made a lot of strides. Will he continue that into the future? Thats the question, and no one knows the answer to that yet, but the future looks a lot brighter for him now than it did a month ago.

For now, he just deserves a ton of credit for a great, ultra tough run in the playoffs. I mean christ, who would have ever thought he'd outplay Brett Favre in the NFC title game in Lambeau Field in negative degree temperature.

Who is the worst? I don't know. '85 Patriots? '01 Patriots? Heh, I swear those were the first two teams to come to mind. Funnily enough, people said that the 2000 Giants were the worst Super Bowl team ever, too.
I thought that 2000 team was pretty good honestly. The defense was bad ass, obv not as good as the Ravens though. Tiki and Dayne, and Toomer was good back then (still is decent). Kerry Collins had a decent year too. I wouldn't call that team bad by any means, jmo.

I mean, this victory doesn't surprise me now. It would have surprised me 3 months ago.

Fink,

The idea that FO might have had the Giants as the worst team after week 2 does not surprise me, and IMO was what a lot of people were thinking at the time. I think you listed them last in the rankings after Week 2, and there were plenty of us who started the Coughlin watch and begged to end the Eli Manning error. I haven't gone back through the years to confirm this, but I've got to think that the NYG making the Super Bowl this year has to be one of the more shocking in-season turnarounds in history. Nobody could have foreseen this.

oh yeah... after week 2 was when my "Giants' Defense" gimmick first appeared, with comments like "I tried to make some rice earlier, but it came out all wrong because I couldn't cover the pot"

I accept all credit for the Superbowl run

Its kinda hard for me to realize it, since I was such a wreck during most of this game, but this was an amazing game correct?

That was a great game. That punt return fumble/ensuing scrum at the end of the game was AWESOME.

Conference championship Sunday always better than Super Bowl Sunday.

Niss,

I never saw FO say that the Giants were the worst team in the league (I knew it didn't say that in the Prospectus), so I wanted some clarification on what SUB said, which I got.

Also, yeah I agree about it being an amazing in-season turnarounds. After the first two weeks we didn't know how good Dallas and Green Bay were going to be, so those two losses seemed really bad. In hindsight, now we know that those two losses weren't really all that bad. But even still, it's quite a turnaround.

the timing here with the first of the two missed Tynes field goals is just hysterical fwiw

edit: i guess it was the last second 4th quarter missed field goal

Yes. I said "wow what a great game" atleast a dozen times.

I think it's been an above-average season in terms of entertainment, although it might have to do with me having happened to catch the more entertaining games this year, but a few come to mind:

Dallas / Buffalo - lolololol that was brutal
Patriots / Colts - that was a spectacular game
Patriots / Giants - that was a good game until the end, and considering it was 16-0, was quite compelling I thought

and probably a bunch more that I'm forgetting... but yeah the playoffs have been solid. I've really been thoroughly happy with this entire season. I can't even hate on the Patriots (which I would normally take pleasure in) because they're just really ****ing good, even when they beat my Giants they were fun to watch. and they'll probably be fun to watch when they beat my Giants again... NEXT SEASON!

I was in 1 of 2 markets that didn't get to see Pats/Colts. I think it was the only time all year that the Texans played the late game on CBS.

mbillie,

Yeah there were some great games this season. Off the top of my head, Dallas/Buffalo, Baltimore/NE, Denver/Buffalo (week 1), Cleveland/Buffalo (snow game), Denver/GB, Jax/Pitt (regular season), first Cleveland/Cincy game ... I'm sure there are others.

This has been an NFL season with some classic games. The Buffalo/Dallas and New England/Baltimore games were both as good as any NFL regular season game I've seen.

He had two very good games for Eli standards in the first 2 playoff games, but he's not good. He had 2 good games, he's still just waiting to blow up.

I think your game stats are a little off. Eli threw for over 350 yards today. His receivers caught only 254 yards worth, and dropped at least a hundred yards of soft, in the hands, catchable throws.

I don't watch the Giants regularly, but if this performance was typical of his receiving corp, he's actually one of the better, if not best, NFL quarterbacks this season. In baseball stats are such a huge part of the game and so individual based, you can get insights without watching the game. Not so in this team sport we call football.
