After that personal foul outside the 2 minute warning, shouldn't the clock started back up? The previous play was a tackle in the field of play.
Here's the other one...

From ESPN Play By Play

2nd and 3 at DAL 33
(2:25) R.Jennings up the middle to DAL 31 for 2 yards (J.Mincey; J.Crawford). PENALTY on DAL-J.Mincey, Unnecessary Roughness, 15 yards, enforced at DAL 31.
Timeout #2 by DAL at 02:17

Dallas was allowed to take back the timeout since there was a penalty. Isn't he clock supposed to restart since the preceding play was a tackle in bounds?

Just saw this on twitter

On declined offside penalty late in NYG-DAL game. By rule, inside 5 min of 4th Qtr clock starts on snap after a foul (accepted or declined)

what a horrendous rule

defense essentially benefits from committing penalties late in the game. what's the original intention behind this rule?

It is a bit of an awkward rule.

feels like some of you have never watched football since penalties are called quite often

You can't call a pass play and eliminate the possibility of an incompletion, no matter how much you discuss it beforehand. Just run the ball.

Let's go Mets.

Because there won't be anything else to watch on Sundays in October.

If the game clock is stopped after a down in which there was a foul by either team, following enforcement or declination of a penalty, the game clock will start as if the foul had not occurred, except that the clock will start on the snap if:

the foul occurs after the two-minute warning of the first half

the foul occurs inside the last five minutes of the second half

a specific rule prescribes otherwise

Seems like a dumb rule. Sure it prevents some nonsense, but I don't want to think now. NYG not having the option for the clock to restart after the OBJ 1st down is not in the spirit of the game

If the Giants were losing then it would be an awesome rule

I dunno, so maybe give the offense the option of when to run the clock if declining a defensive penalty. I don't really think it should help the offense, but I could see the argument that a D penalty caused them to change the play and thus gain less yardage than they may have otherwise.

Can't wait until someone like Bill Belichick angleshoots this stupid rule by intentionally having someone commit a defensive penalty as the other team converts a 1st down while attempting to run out the clock

In fact, I'm surprised it hasn't happened already

If NY was trying to throw the game it would have been tough to do so as efficiently as this without it being obvious.

So I had to pick up my mom from the airport and missed the very end.

Last thing I saw was Giants got stopped on 2nd down and then Some dumbass on the Cowboys got an unsportsmanlike conduct and I assumed the game was gonna be over after that.

My mom then comes in the car saying Dallas won

So cliffs of the last 1:30?

run followed by stupid Giants penalty, run to 2 minute warning, Eli to OBJ for a first down at the 4 yard line plus declined offside penalty (see discussion above), run-TO-run-TO-incomplete pass from the 1, field goal, kickoff, Tony Romo inhabited by ghost of Joe Montana

Run, 2nd TO. Run, 3rd TO. Inexplicable incomplete pass stopping the clock. Inexplicable decision to kick the FG.

Completion x4 against soft as Charmin coverage. TD as Witten is left free to get position in front of everyone in the middle of the end zone.

Recap

Dallas was the 7-point favorite. They were running the play clock down to 1 second with a running clock the entire game. They did it while they were losing. They even did it on a handful of plays when they were down 2 scores.

After a 1st down to the 33, NYG left ~30 seconds on the clock by snapping the ball at around 15, 12 & 8 with a running game clock.

Teams like to ESTABLISH the run around midfield, but when they get inside the 2, they think it's too obvious and pass instead. NYG elect to run, run, pass, kick a 19-yard field goal to go up 6.

It's the same stuff every year. I hate it, but deep down inside, I love it. I'm sick
