We really should have named this the "Brodeur chases Patick Roy's all time win record. Brodeur needs thirteen wins to pass Patrick Roy to become the NHL record-holder for career wins by a goalie. Roy's mark of 551 has stood since he retired after the 2002-03 season. Marty needs to play in sixty-two games to have more appearances in goal than any goalie in NHL history. With 968 games played, he is three behind the late Terry Sawchuk and 61 behind Roy.

This Devils team does not have the team speed that the elite teams in the conference do. Lou Lamoriello brought two former Devils back. Brian Rolston and Bobby Holik. Rolston came back as an improved player and a bona fide scorer while Holik came back a player with deteriorating skills.

The Devils have gotten off to a fast start. The team has won four out of it's first five games.

The Devils won in a shootout tonight against the Capitals.

The team lost one of their key free agent acquisitions when Brian Rolston suffered a "high angle sprain" Thursday night against Atlanta.

Good game though. I'm mad the caps aren't in the Atlantic division. Hurricanes and Lightning are fine, but all the teams you love to hate are in the Atlantic.

He made some key saves tonight against the Capitals. He robbed Semin during regulation, and he played him very well in the shootout.

Many people will say that Brodeur would not have the stats if it he did not have Ken Daneyko Scott Stevens, Scott Neidermeyer...etc..etc... playing defense.

Brodeur will have the all time win record, not sure if you can call him the best.

But of course

The Devils have a system, how well the players finish under that system will define the offense. Zubrus can become a 20 goal scorer. Depending on how much time Rolston misses he can become a 25-30 goal scorer. The team needs for Gionta and Elias to regain their form and capitalize on their scoring chances.

brodeur is not the greatest of all-time but he's in the pantheon.

basically:

if i wanted to win one game, i'd probably take patrick roy, or maybe dominik hasek.

if i wanted to go through a season from start to finish, i'd take brodeur. he has been tremendous the last three years.

i missed tonight's game, nice that the devils scored more than 2 goals. i do think the offense will improve as the season goes along, though i am concerned about the prevalence of shoot-first players on our forward lines. there's no one who likes to pass aside from elias and zubrus and sutter apparently loathes both of them.

Flyers are such a close second though. Their fans are an abomination. God I hate the state of Pennsylvania.

whurd i hate brodeur with a burning passion and love to see him lose in the garden... but even the most diehard rangers and islanders fans have to admit brodeur ia a spectacular goaltender and he's gunna shatter the recordbooks.

just hope he doesnt rewrite history in any games against us.

The Devils with a solid 5-0 win over the Dallas Stars.

Captain Jamie Langenbrunner got his first goal of the season.
Martin earned his second shutout of the season.

I think I cursed Brodeur by creating this thread.
He may need to wait until next season to break some records considering he will miss four months of the season.

Brodeur with a chance at history tonight.
He needs to get the win tonight to tie Patrick Roy for the all time wins record by a goalie.

2-1 Devils at the end of the first period.

Haha I'm just kidding. Still mad the Habs lost but the standing O at the end was great. His father was on the post-game show with the local TV channel crew and he looks like a nice guy.

His dad won the bronze medal with team Canada as a goalie in the 1956 Olympics.

Quote:
Denis Brodeur (born October 12, 1930, in Montreal, Quebec) is acknowledged as one of hockey's finest photographers[1] and is the father of current New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur. He was the official photographer for the Montreal Canadiens for many years, and co-published a book entitled "Goalies - Guardians of the Net" back in 1996, which features his son Martin on the front cover.

Like his son, Denis was also considered an outstanding goaltender,[2] and helped team Canada win the bronze medal at the 1956 Olympic Games in Cortina D'Ampezzo, Italy.[3]

In November 2006 the National Hockey League acquired Brodeur's photography work, which consisted of over 110,000 images from 40 years.[4] Some of the legendary names included in this collection are the Esposito Brothers, Jean Beliveau, Gordie Howe, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Bobby Orr. He also captured many famous events and landmarks, from the nasty Boston-Montreal rivalry of the 1970’s right on up through the Devils’ first Stanley Cup in 1995. His image was featured on a hockey card for the 2004-2005 Upper Deck Series One Hockey.

Brodeur goes for the record tonight at home against the Blackhawks.
Patric Elias goes for the all time scoring leader of the Devils.
Should make for an exciting night at the Rock.
