I don't get why people are still caring about seeds at this stage of the tournament. It's all about matchups anyways.

For example eventhough St.Mary's may have a low seed, may have run incredibly hot and may technically be worse than the higher seeds on any given day I don't think it's cake for Duke to play them, in fact I think matchup wise they may probably root to avoid them (alas Baylor is also not the best matchup for them).

And the #5 seed lost their star point guard.

What? Duke is absolutely going to **** on St. Marys.

St. Marys got the best draw ever, playing two teams without any bigs that couldn't handle Samhan. If St. Marys had to play WVU or KSU or Ohio State instead of Villanova, they would have had a much tougher time.

As we saw on Sunday, Duke's got an army of big men that they can throw at you and crush you with, and they'll negate Samhan while being able to pressure the guards.




Generally, high ranked, good teams would prefer to play teams that play the same style that they do, just not as well. They would prefer not to play teams that play a totally different style, because then that throws a ton of variables into the equation.

Everything St. Marys can do, Duke can do much, much better. They'll be better at every spot on the floor except C, where they've got more than enough talent and size to mitigate the advantage.

On the other hand, Baylor is of the run and gun and go up and down and jam it philosophy, and while Duke will have lots of advantages over them, Baylor will in turn present lots of difficulties for Duke.

Duke will be the clear favorite over either, but they definitely would rather play St. Marys.

im pretty sure its the one in the UNI network with 4000 friends and people posting stuff to his wall every 10 minutes instead of the guy in a high school network that lucked into having the same name as a god.

You are in some trouble if this lasts a while longer, though.

I think you go with Kansas State on Thursday, Baylor on Friday. But you can't pick Baylor because you'd need them on Sunday. If you think it's over by Sunday, go with Baylor, otherwise, you need to pick between UNI and MSU. Gonna be a tough call, though.

If still alive, I probably go with Syracuse on Saturday or Kentucky if something weird happens.

On Sunday, you pretty much have to pick Baylor. Picking MSU/UNI here might be a backup plan if you go with Baylor early. You just have too many teams you can't use who play on Thu/Sun.

You'll still have either Syracuse or Kentucky left (or WVU if they get past) for the final 4. You have no team left for the Finals, though (I think).

It also depends on what your opponents are likely to be doing and who they used up.

i cant possibly think of two completely opposite programs than kentucky and cornell

essentially home games for baylor next 2 games also..makes the duke/baylor matchup closer imo..

i feel so much better about this duke team than any team since the 04 F4 team. It doesn't hurt that our draw has been pretty light, but to control that entire game against Cal while going 3-17 from 3pt was so good. Scheyer was also 1-11 FGs, and still Duke controlled the entire game.

The duke teams that have struggled in recent years were very much reliant on the 3pt shot. If they had a bad day from deep, forget about it, which is what happened several times in a row in the tourney. Not as true this year. Singler and Smith both provide penetration and shot creation other than just 3pt bombing. The defense is also much better because of the improvement of Zoubek and the overall size advantage we always have. This year, we're capable of crushing decent/good teams while shooting terribly. If we're shooting well, Duke can absolutely beat anyone.

Cannot wait for Friday to get here so Duke can (hopefully) throw the gigantic S16 monkey off our back.

Without A&M there, I can see a lot of people getting behind Baylor against Duke. Everyone hates Duke.
