re: stevens. im not going to put my checkbook on it or anything, but im pretty sure he just wants to be in indy. he comes from some money (his dad is like the #1 dentist or optometrist or something in the city), he quit a marketing job to be an unpaid assistant, i think his wife has a decent job, and as of just a few months ago was still driving a ford 500. he probably signed a 10 year deal at ~500k a year. im almost positive he wont' be leaving for money.

now, it is not out of the realm of possibility that he does wind up at duke/unc when a program like that calls, but i find it pretty unlikely. after last year he had jobs just a tier below those, and he was like "LOL" and insta signed the 11 year deal, did a bunch of interviews about how he didn't even take their phone calls or listen to their offers, he wants to be at butler.

so sick that he's actually making the program a destination gig, essentially. but, with the way he's treated around the campus, the basketball programs budget, the location (pretty solid recruiting location imo with indy producing top tier talent year in and year out and chicago/cincy/louisville driving distance), it seems a lot like he's just going to try and win a bunch of games. maybe even break general/coach rat's record.

Now you're just trolling. Indiana hasn't been in the top ten in many years. They're in the top ten of most accomplished programs of all time, but they might not be even in the top twenty of greatest coaching jobs anymore.

Wait, Jetto is a Yankee fan? Too much.

NBA: Spurs, Lakers
MLB: Yankees

What about the other sports? This could rival Mebanhoe or Thayer.

aejones, do you think stevens can recruit well enough to not only stay atop the horizon league, but consistently get good seeds? hayward and mack kinda flew under the radar, but can he continue to get these guys?

are you serious? LOL

indiana is absolutely a top 10 job. LOLWTF

there is no where in the country that basketball is as important as bloomington indiana. there is as much money as there needs to be. indiana is probably in the 5-10 range as far as recruits go, and if the program is strong, he will absolutely get the cream of the corp (see: 2011 recruiting class).

edit: saying that it dropped out of the top 3 to the 5-10 range in the last decade is completely understandable, but you'd have to get the death penalty to take indiana out of the top 10.

the last two years. i'd say they look a ton better than what sparty is putting out there.
Yeah considering the fact that Michigan has the youngest team in any power conference and Sparty had absolutely no one step up for them when the opportunity presented themselves it's pretty hard to say that they aren't doing well recruiting wise.

he was in the final 3 for cody zellar, he's got a pretty good class coming in-- iirc, kyle marshall (i feel like his name has some weird spelling, but w/e) was a top 100 recruit (maybe ~50?). indiana is not ny or cali or w/e, but this pocket of the midwest is fertile. as far as facilities/attendance at games/basketball importance/ solid education but not so good that you can't get some good basketball players in here, it's pretty ideal.

i would venture to say that they can stay the class of the horizon league, yes. stars? probably fewish and far between, maybe an nba prospect every few years, but yes i would expect them to stay at the top of the horizon. it's still a 1 bid league, but it's not unfathomable that it becomes a little better than that on the tier of the missouri valley.

I'm not going to derail this thread anymore than it has already, but like I said, they went down to their 5th or 6th choice of coach last time. Indiana has it's best recruiting class in years coming in next year, and it's still not top 20.

Indiana was facing sanctions their last coaching change, that's not a fair way to measure things.

a quick scan of rivals tells me that indiana has #10, #17, #78, and another top 150 recruit signed for 2012, in addition to zellar coming in next year. crean was able to do all that after just 2 years or w/e. there are maybe 4-5 spots you'd rather be for basketball recruiting based primarily on population density, but indiana is right up there.

It's not in the top 5, that's all I'm saying. Indiana has a lot to offer, though.

indiana had all kinds of violations coming down on them, people were scared, crean had indiana connections and was actually the perfect person for the job.

he has a top 25 class with TWO PLAYERS this year, and has 4 top 150 recruits for next year. want to bet on the success of indiana in 3-4 years?

edit: it's your last post on the topic because you're wrong. it's quite possible that you're from kentucky or somewhere else bitter, but EVEN IF IT SLIPPED to a 5-10 job, LOLOLOL @ it being outside of the top 10. holy cow.
