How does survivor for the tournament work if you don't mind explaining? I've seen a bunch of different Tournament pools but never a survivor. I'm curious.

I’m in one, I’ll assume it’s similar.

Pick one team per game day. Survive each day and play the next.

So day one we picked Purdue, day two TT, day 3 MSU, day 4 VT. So those teams are out. We have 12 teams to pick from the last 6 days. If you work backwards, you need a to pick the winner of the nc (duke, uva, UK, unc, Gonzaga) and then the loser (same group) and then have 4 more teams that win but don’t win too much. We probably went too chalky to win it all but we will see.

Last time duke won we got to the final 4 in survivor but picked duke early in the tourney and Saved UK for the final 4 game but they lost to wisky.

Most years maybe half the teams are out after the first weekend, this year it’s 55/65 left. We don’t have team pick details but someone picked unc game 1 and a few pretty strongish picks with. Title equity, early.

we have to pick two games thur/fri, makes it a lot tougher

with so few upsets pretty much everyone you won with earlier is still around so it limits options and I already dont have a good sequence going forward the way the regions line up. might just take virginia as the safest pick and hope other people risk it on some of the two seeds then figure out from there

Sounds fun. Thanks for the breakdown from you and jackets both.

My wife and I both went to unc, instead of a March wedding which might conflict with the acc or ncaat, we had our wedding in February instead with the worry that people would be interested in a game or the tournament. There was a game on our wedding day but I think we played Clemson.

Who cares about average MOV though. If some blowouts are 40 points or 20 points, it doesn't really matter, but the difference between 1 point and 8 points is massive

I had a friend get married during the 2012 Baylor Elite 8 game. I still haven't forgiven him for it.

I hope Avenatti had a dead man's switch. Would be absolutely amazing if he managed to blow up himself, Nike, and the NCAA grifters in a single maneuver.

Tennessee's defense gives up a ton of 3s and offensive rebounds(262nd in the nation). Purdue makes it rain from 3 and grabs offensive rebounds in the top 20 teams of the nation. Gotta think this matchup favors Purdue.

Pick one winner every DAY of the tournament. Can't use a team more than once. You lose and you're out. It's really cool, and really hard, although not as much this year. This year is the first I've made it out of the first weekend.

The one I'm in has a tiebreaker of sorts that will most assuredly come into play. The more higher seeds you pick along the way the more piece of the pot you get. So if you went with Oregon at some point this year, you will end up getting more than if you didn't.

To do it right, you pretty much have to work backwards, and note when the regionals play. For example, if you plan to have Duke win, you can't have plan for them to play UNC in the final because you need a winner on Sunday.

I made it through the first weekend by taking (in order), Purdue, VaTech, Michigan, and Houston. Penciled in Michigan St for Thursday as of now.

Didn't see others had chimed in. In comparison, the one I'm in started with 467 entries ($26 per). I think it still has 250 or so. Sunday was a joke. Almost losing more people because they overslept than ones that actually picked like Buffalo.

if teams from the same day regionals play each other in the final its always impossible to reach the end because you would have had to pick one of them in the elite eight and one in the final four.

if you think it will be duke/unc then the "plan" is simply that it will end on final four saturday for everyone.

Ive used Purdue, Tennessee, VT, Mich St, and Houston so far. Also picked Kansas earlier.

right now I expect to go virginia, kentucky, whoever I want in the west, unc/auburn, then duke (or lsu if they make it)

technically I could leave myself a spot to a championship by going michigan, kentucky, fsu/gonzaga, unc/auburn, uva, duke but seems way riskier and less likely to happen. sometimes you just dont get to the final

It's late in the tournament by Penders standard time...this favors ANY school he is matched up against. The inability to close is a big part of what led to his being run out of Austin...unfortunately, in doing so, the powers that be selected and overpaid for Shaka Smart on the basis of the VCU run the prior season.

Or you just abort the plan, pick UNC Sunday, and then Virginia in the semifinals.

my UK friend who has been right about all things UK for forever has told me P.J. has been shutdown and won't be playing in the NCAAT.

P.J.'s dad doesn't want him to risk it and Cal is supportive of that decision.

went to the opening weekend of the tournament for the first time. What a great atmosphere. We were in Columbus and got to see Cinci/Iowa for our first game, which was basically a home game for Cinci. Got to see a 16 seed be up at half, and Tennessee nearly blow a 25 point lead.

If you've never been, i'd 100% recommend.
