Much like music, movies and tv, even football uniforms are now a race to the bottom and an appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Idk, VaTech just crushed Marshal by 8 points in triple overtime right after blasting East Carolina by 5 points...

Logan Thomas is just a bigger version of Reggie Ball, just zero progression. In fact, I guess he's actually managed to regress hard from his first year starting, well done, because that isn't easy. At least Reggie Ball just stayed sort of ****ty instead of plummeting from a promising start

Georgia Tech should win since the triple option's tough to defend on a short week, but even as a generally optimistic fan, I don't think they're going to "crush" them or that VT can't win the game. Virginia Tech's a young team that's taking some time to gell on offense, and is prone to dumb young team stuff like overlooking weaker opponents, but you can't question their talent. Their defense completely shut down Alabama, holding them to 206 yards on 62 plays, and they might have even beaten the Tide without some big return TDs. The Jackets are going to be in for a battle Thursday night.

Also, with arguably their biggest game of the season coming up this Thursday against a team that's difficult to prepare for, I wouldn't be surprised if Virginia Tech took some of the practice time that would normally be used to prepare for the Marshall offense last week, and spent it on the triple option. I don't think you can read into that game too heavily as a barometer of Virginia Tech's true talent.

I feel like you put your quotes in the wrong place. I would have written it:

I don't think they're "going to" crush them.

As in they could crush, there are some strong indicators that Georgia Tech really is just a much better team, but all of those indicators have enough caveats and uncertainty that they may yet prove invalid, so they also might not crush, and of course could even lose.

Well, yeah I meant on average. Not that I'd be particularly surprised if Tech won big.

Interesting note that non-ACC fans might not know:

Since the ACC went to a two-division format in 2005, the winner of the Georgia Tech/Virginia Tech game has won the Coastal 7/8 years. The one exception? Last year, when Georgia Tech lost to Virginia Tech 20-17, and still rebounded to make the ACC championship after Miami declared themselves ineligible.

I think on the heels of surviving East Carolina 15-10, you kinda can. Every team has to be ready for pissant teams in between important games. Also, perhaps shutting down Alabama's offense is not the accomplishment you might think given Colorado State's overwhelming success at the same. Yes, I know the Hokies were Phil Steele's #18 preseason, but 3 games in all they've got is a moral victory and two games of looking like **** against moderately tall midgets coming off a 7-6 record.

VT has a young and talented defense this year and our depth at dline will help against this offense, but ultimately i don't think it will matter since VT D will be on the field way too much to keep fresh.

logan deficiencies were masked in 2011 by having david wilson, jarrett boykin and danny coale around him. replaced by average players at rb/wr after they left. although i would not argue against him regressing since then either.

Rhoads has had them as a non-****ty bowl eligible team the last few years. Calm down there Iowa fan, I know you're in for a rough year. It'll be okay. You're still better than them.

In case you were not aware, UAB is the best school in Alabama. That makes this matchup the Harvard of Alabama vs. the Harvard of Tennessee (or the South). Vandy easily defeated but did not eviscerate UMass last week, home of the actual Harvard, and UAB is significantly better than you may remember.
This is so infinitely awesome-o-5000.

Thanks. Say, is there anything noteworthy or interesting about the stone at Virginia Tech?

Jesus Georgia State. So bad they're a heavy dog to EVERY SINGLE TEAM IN FBS.

It was dumb of them to move from FCS so early because they should've been the premier destination for guys who got kicked out of FBS schools. At least you can start to build a program that wins a couple games that way and not get eviscerated every week.

Probably not.

Every week I make one of these posts:http://actuarygambler.blogspot.com/2...week-4_24.html. In the excel webapp you can type in an FBS team (Utah is what's currently populated, just click on that cell and type) and their schedule will populate including outcomes of past games and odds of winning future games.

If you're going to the main site just scroll down until you see the most recent version (currently that's week 4).

PVN should be along shortly to settle this CHESS TEAM nonsense.

As for football, best week of the year since I do not have to watch Michigan poop it up.
