The only SOS ranking I found was cosgrove which has
1. Arkansas
2. Notre Dame
3. Auburn
4. USC
5. Utah

I didn't know we almost played 4 common opponents, swapping ASU for BYU.

NW = NW
USC=USC
Stan=Stan

UO < FSU
UCLA > UL

BYU=ASU
UW > Syr
UOA > UNC

wOSU > Navy
WSU < Mich

Col = Rice
Sac St < Purdue

Looks pretty even to me. Cal is in the 2nd toughest division so it's kind of like saying Arkansas has a tougher schedule.

Should be #1 Arkansas, #2 Auburn, based on the head to head being tougher for Arkansas. I don't know who's #3 but it's a big gap.

If you had to get through with 1 loss, would you rather play against Auburn's schedule once, Oklahoma's twice, or FSU's 3 times? (semi-serious question)

I don't doubt that Notre dame deserves its spot at or near the top of SOS rankings, but that's because they play no true patsy/creampuff, not because they have a vicious 4 game gauntlet. If you play Navy, Rice, and North Carolina instead of an FCS team, Florida Atlantic, and the current corpsicle version of Southern Miss, then you are effectively pitting a 12 game schedule against 9. Those three games, cumulatively, represent a decent chance of losing 1, vs really none. They probably lose a few spots after conference championship games, though.

Well one reason is that Syr is batting .500 vs ND all time, which while not as good as Indiana Light Artillery, is relatively rare.

and I didn't mean to slight Auburn, they did play a good team on their campus.

So model rates teams from 0-1 right. The sum of the ratings for those 4 notre dame opponents is 3.05. The Utah slate I posted is 3.64, Auburn 3.39, Ole Miss 3.33.
