As a Louisville fan I'm on the fence with him since he is a really good coach but he left a bad taste in my mouth when he left.

FYI-there was a bed sheet hung by Jurich's office asking Tom to bring him back. I don't think most fans want him back now though.

Still don't fully understand the butthurt when coaches leave for obviously better jobs. We all want to work at the best place possible for our careers, no?

My favorites are the stepping stone schools that don't want to believe that they're stepping stones. Take Arkansas State, since they're close to me. Those guys are legit mad that guys won't stay there. lol

It's not that he left for the NFL it's the way he did it.

As a UofL fan since the late 70's I personally don't want to see him rehired. **** him.

Oh, didn't realize we were still talking Petrino. Yeah, that guy is a douche. Can get not wanting him back, of course.

Think of it as every coaching hire being a gamble, whereas your coach who's getting poached is already a bet won. Knowing that someone "better" than you gets to profit from your brilliant talent evaluation (probably variance) is the sort of thing that chaps people's asses. And, that's pretty true in other professions as well, at least in my experience.

I have no problem with Strong taking the Texas job. He's going out with class and style as opposed to lying to the program/fans like Petrino.

I'd like to see a coach like Strong/Petrino/John L stay for the long term and build up the program. The last 2 coaches have built the team into a nationally ranked team in a couple of years. Imagine what they could do if they stayed more than 2-4yrs. Hopefully moving into the ACC will help.

The biggest butthurt is always from the stepping stone that thinks it's actually a destination job.

Ark St fans may really want someone to stay and build the program, but they can understand why a coach leaves. I may want Franklin to stay at Vandy forever but I've already said he'll leave if offered an NFL job or a college where he could win Nattys.

Tennessee fans were honestly stunned when Kiffin left: not that he left after only a year and the way he left (which everyone could see was pretty dickish). Just the idea that someone would leave UT at all was completely unfathomable to them. They thought of themselves as a top 5 program and being shown that they weren't was a real blow that I'm not sure they've recovered from.

I guess I think the UT hire is okay from a football perspective. But all I hear about Strong is how much he hates dealing with media, boosters, and anyone else not on the actual field.

Seems like a horrible mix for UT in that regard. They have their own ****ing tv channel for ****s sake.

This is a popular opinion around Louisville from what I've heard. A lot of "thank you Charlie" and pointing out what all he's done for our program.

The conference move plus a great AD will help.

As an Arkansas fan, I have seen good football and ****ty football. I'll take good football with a douchebag coach every time. I have a feeling most coaches are douchebags anyway, at least Petrino wins.
