Move to ACC imo. No titles in SEC, everyone's solid.

Georgia gets almost everyone they want in state. But there's so much talent that neighboring schools load up too.

re: beamer via espn article

Virginia Tech won two games in his first season, and by his third, the Hokies had climbed to six wins. By his sixth, they had fallen back to two. In six seasons in Blacksburg, Beamer produced a record of 24-40-2 (.379).

Holy crap, there's no way in today's society a coach would survive that.

Seems VT is just doomed to mediocrity at best for awhile. or ever, reminds me a bit of KSU where I have no idea how or why they've done better than what they should've for a long time.

Virginia produces a lot more talent than Kansas.

Georgia essentially selects, not recruits. Some of that is no doubt the coaching, but they have the brand, money, tradition, facilities, enviable location, and are in incredibly fertile ground and it is weird to say otherwise or think their footprint stops at the state's borders.

I always see UGA fans complaining about Mark Richt but what about that offensive clown they hired? Are they complaining about him? What's his face. Brian schottenheimer. He pretty much sucked in the NFL not sure why people are surprised his offense sucks in college. UGA hasn't scored a touchdown since Steve Spurrier retired. Richt needs to fire that clown.

Guess who hired him.

Knowing Richt, he will prob lobby for Schotty to get a raise and the administration will bend over and give it to him.

Yes, fire Schotty. ****ing ridiculous.

Firing coaches with a history of at least some success without a clear plan for someone better is a bad idea imo... especially when you'd be the what, 3rd best coaching position available (USC, Miami, maybe some others)?

Georgia > Miami's job in basically every way.

Did Georgia think they'd be good this year starting a qb who wasn't good enough to play at Virginia

I don't even think Miami is any better than your Virginia Tech type openings.

The school just doesn't have the money, facilities, stadium or fan base to be a top notch program.

Al Golden is barely in the top half of salaries for CFB coaches.

I've heard them not having a stadium on campus is a deterrent in recruiting and attendance.

Miami did say they're willing to pay 4+ this time around for a coach.

Yeh, Sun Life stadium is like a 45 minute drive from campus. Kinda ridiculous.

Well, they probably thought they'd have Chubb all year. It's probably easier to be the UGA qb when you have Chubb to hand the ball to.

Georgia probably a Top 5 coaching position, definitely Top 10.

That other GA school would have an opening but for their opponents last year conspiring to keep PJ around.

I think most fans expected QB to be the only real weakness. Yes, I know how that sounds. So tons of variance in how the season to go. We expected Running game to be dominant and one of best in country, OL to be very good (hasn't happened), and Defense to be pretty good (it has been, though tackling is meh for a couple games). We wanted Lambert/Ramsey/Bauta to be OK and pretty much a game-manager.

9.5 wins seems right. After a few weeks, and it appeared a couple of the teams we were most worried about - Auburn and Tech - got worse, and Lambert setting an NCAA record for completion percentage, fans started to dream. Totally understandable.

Losing by 28 at home is never acceptable, even to Alabama.

It's pretty ****ing weird to start a 3rd stringer for the first time ever against UF, watch him throw 4 picks, not adapt the play-calling to him and never pull him. WTF?

Maybe they do have a clear plan.

Definitely not behind "some others". I could see Miami being in the debate, but UGA would easily become the 2nd best job available imo.

The U just doesn't have the support from the administration to recruit the type of players and make the program a success like it had in past-times.
