Shanahan really?

4 current SEC coaches on the list. I'd imagine Mullen is really the only feasible one.

Hudspeth still sitting their doing work at LaLa with a non-Boom offense. If they get RichRod, there's a good chance he goes to Arizona (where he has some sort of connection).

All my UF fan buddies are convinced RichRod is the guy

The really dumb one thinks it'll be Harbaugh

Shanahan's coaching tree:

From what I've seen, the only reason he's being mentioned is that he let people know he's interested and nobody's (correctly) told him to **** off yet. You'd have to be a deep, deep idiot to hire him.

Supposedly there's rumors that Gundy isn't in love with the athletic department at OSU

Also Gus leaving AU for UF seems farfetched, lateral move at best, AU can easily match whatever UF offers financially and why start over when you've already got a year's worth of recruits under your belt?

What about the other Stoops?

The only reason I could see is if he sees Florida as a better path to CFP long-term. Starting over would suck.

I know everything tends to be cyclical in terms of division strength but to me the West just projects so much better long-term. Tennessee isn't ever going back to a perennial contender, USC floats back to irrelevance once Spurrier is gone. TAMU should be better long-term than Mizzou.

I would hate to build what he has built in a couple years and leave but at the same time Alabama and LSU should always be monsters. UF should be #1 in the East. Tough call.

Still got some recruits left from when he was the OC under Chiz. So, it's not like Malzhan has just been at Auburn for a year or so.

Mike Gundy is the favorite to take the UF job, according to Bovada.

Interesting...

If I had to make a bet from those choices I'd take Malzahn at 12/1. He should be their first choice so it's just a question of whether they can convince him to come.
Gundy has been trying to whore himself out the last few years. He was interested in Arkansas and Tennessee. It is well documented that Gundy and Pickens have had problems. Also, isn't the NCAA snooping around Stillwater?

IIRC, Tennessee thought they had Gundy pretty much hired then he signed a fat extension with OK St. Florida's a better job, but legit chance he just flirts with every job that comes along to squeeze more out of Stillwater.

I guess if he's having issues with Pickens and the AD he could leave but having your name floated around for jobs is often just a way to get a new contract without ever having any intention of actually leaving.

Why do jobs suddenly become less desirable once a couple people have turned them down?

We see this almost every year. School goes after high profile guys they may not be able to get (as UT did with Gundy and Strong), gets turned down, suddenly becomes less attractive to other candidates.

Why? Isn't it the same ****ing job is was before some other coach turned it down?

I don't think the actual candidates think this way, but the media and fans go crazy and jump on the "OMG THE JOB IS LESS DESIRABLE NOW" story line.

It won't be Gundy, unless Florida has a drug problem, doesn't comprehend English, or they're senile.

But I hope I'm wrong, hope he gets the job.
