there is zero analytical reason to do this, although hilariously I do believe that in a couple hundred game sample size, the team that goes first has won slightly more than 50% of the time (likely just variance)
It's not like Prime was too dumb to know the analytics though, he basically said in the postgame that he was aware of the logic for going second, and his analysts upstairs said that obviously they should go second, and he decided to just say **** it and go first because he knew they were gonna score and he wanted to put pressure on CSU, which is the kind of YOLO I can get behind. (Although probably didn't consider that going first allows CSU to go for two if they equalize)
Also entirely possible that his players goofed up the decision and he just said in the press conference that it was his choice in order to cover for them. (I am aware of David Shaw doing this at least once on some bone head clock management situation)
