Right but my point was the only reason they were #15 in the first place is because of the preseason rankings. SP+ and Sagarin both had OU as 1-2 point underdogs coming into the game which means they thought OU was much closer to a top 5 team than top 15.

You said your mind was boggled and was just trying to help out. That’s how “these” rankings work, which will become meaningless once the real rankings come out

It’s so hard to predict teams especially with the transfer portal and younger players starting more often, so while they have been moving up fast have to put in more work to get the top slots.

But we must be careful not to overreact, they didn’t go to Georgia and win by five touchdowns or anything. One bad bounce and Wyoming could have slapped an L on Texas

POST WEEK 6 RESUME RANKINGS

A bit early for this, but it's pretty shocking for 1 loss teams to be ahead of 0 loss teams after 6 weeks. Speaks to how bad some of the schedules have been and how tough Bama/Texas' has been

1. 37% FSU
2. 41% Oklahoma
3. 46% Ohio State
4. 59% Louisville

5. 63% Alabama!
6. 66% Georgia
7. 67% Texas!
8. 70% UNC
9. 71% Oregon
10. 73% Washington

80% Michigan
88% USC
88% Penn State

A fine way to think about Texas and Alabama is that they both played two games that a top-5 team would be a flip in (vs each other and n Oklahoma / @ ATM), so a top-5 team wins at least 1 of those games 75% of the time. Then, they get a couple extra points for winning @baylor/v kansas and v ole miss / @ miss st.

all 4 of Penn State's games rank right around the 20 point barrier where win prob starts to close in on 100%. To a top-5 team, there's not much difference to playing a team with a rating of 2 and a team with a rating of -20, whereas that's a huge diff for an average team. In real life I give PSU more credit bc (a) they dominated those games against mids (unlike FSU or Louisville)

not much will change this week other than the Wash / Oregon winner likely jumping to #1 or #2

USC can enter the top-10 as well with a win @ Notre Dame

Oct 10 Tue 2023
7:00 PM
Louisiana Tech 3
Middle Tennessee State -3
Finally, five days of college football! This is a de-facto elimination game to see whether anybody can crack the seemingly inevitable WKU/Liberty showdown in CUSA

7:30 PM
Coastal Carolina +6½
Appalachian State -6½
The fun belt still features 10 teams within a touchdown of each other, which is ridiculous.
On one side the race is between Troy, South Alabama, Louisiana and Texas State, who all have 1 loss.
On this side, it's Appy, Marshall, Ga southern and Ga state. Coastal rates as pretty good but already dropped 2 and needs to wi out to stay alive, while JMU is right in it too but ineligible because reasons.

7:30 PM
Liberty -6
Jacksonville State 6

Oct 11 Wed 2023
7:30 PM
UTEP 1
Florida International -1

9:00 PM
Sam Houston St +3½
New Mexico State -3½

Oct 12 Thu 2023
7:00 PM
West Virginia -2½
Houston +2½

The B12 race is interesting. OU is in the driver's seat now, with Texas probably heading towards a rematch. But WVU is 2-0 with wins over Tech and TCU, and they avoid Texas, Kansas and K-State.

7:30 PM
SMU -12
East Carolina 12

Oct 13 Fri 2023
7:00 PM
Tulane -3½
Memphis +3½

Very few of the good teams in the AAC play each other. Among Tulane, SMU, Memphis and UTSA, out of the six possible games, only 3 are scheduled - Tulane/Memphis, Tulane/UTSA and SMU/Memphis. So, this is one of the three that will go a long way towards deciding the finalists

8:00 PM
Fresno State -6
Utah State 6

10:00 PM
Stanford 11
Colorado -11

Primetime is back in Prime time. Colorado is favored to improve to 5-2 here, although 4 of their last 5 games will be against ranked teams.

Oct 14 Sat 2023
12:00 PM
Kent State 10
Eastern Michigan -10

12:00 PM
Syracuse +17½
Florida State -17½

12:00 PM
Indiana 34
Michigan -34

12:00 PM
Michigan State 5
Rutgers -5

12:00 PM
Iowa State +5½
Cincinnati -5½

12:00 PM
Georgia Southern +3½
James Madison -3½

12:00 PM
Ohio State -19½
Purdue +19½

Hudson Card is Purdue's quarterback, and Ohio State has had nightmares in West Lafayette before. That's all I know.

12:00 PM
Arkansas +19½
Alabama -19½

Bama's got some tough sledding ahead, but they are right back in the thick of the title conversation

12:00 PM
Temple 7
North Texas -7

12:00 PM
Georgia -31½
Vanderbilt +31½

2:00 PM
Navy -3
Charlotte 3

2:00 PM
Toledo -17
Ball State 17

3:00 PM
California 13
Utah -13

3:30 PM
Illinois 14
Maryland -14

3:30 PM
Texas A&M +3½
Tennessee -3½

An elimination game between two teams holding out thin hopes. Tennessee hosts UGA, but can't afford a second SEC loss since they already lost in the Swamp. ATM lost to Bama, but it's not impossible Bama loses 2.

3:30 PM
Wake Forest +1½
Virginia Tech -1½

3:30 PM
Florida 2
South Carolina -2

3:30 PM
Massachusetts +42½
Penn State -42½

3:30 PM
Troy -4½
Army +4½

3:30 PM
Florida Atlantic +2½
South Florida -2½

3:30 PM
Bowling Green +5½
Buffalo -5½

3:30 PM
Akron 12
Central Michigan -12

3:30 PM
Miami Ohio -8½
Western Michigan +8½

3:30 PM
Oregon +2½
Washington -2½

The winner will be undefeated, boast one of the 1 or 2 strongest resumes in the country, and win the last (pac-12) edition of one of the nation's best rivalries. Could not be any more on the line.

3:30 PM
BYU 5
TCU -5

3:30 PM
Kansas -3
Oklahoma State 3

Both these teams only have one B12 loss, but KU is the more likely contender

4:00 PM
Ohio -6½
Northern Illinois +6½

4:00 PM
Iowa 10
Wisconsin -10

The Iowa memes post themselves, but this is likely for the B1G west title

5:00 PM
UNLV -9½
Nevada +9½

6:00 PM
San Jose State -8
New Mexico 8

6:30 PM
Louisville -7½
Pittsburgh +7½

Louisville's dark horse run continues

7:00 PM
Marshall -1
Georgia State 1

7:00 PM
Wyoming +10½
Air Force -10½

Air Force has legit undefeated equity, while Wyoming already has two wins over then-ranked teams. The MWC is likely a four team race between Boise, Fresno and these two. (UNLV might get sneaky too)

7:00 PM
Arizona +7½
Washington State -7½

7:00 PM
UL Monroe +16½
Texas State -16½

7:00 PM
Auburn 11
LSU -11

LSU looks to survive and advance after winning at previously undefeated Mizzou. All offense, no defense, it's the southern USC

7:00 PM
Kansas State 1
Texas Tech -1

B12 dark horse elimination game

7:30 PM
Missouri +2½
Kentucky -2½

Both stated 5-0 against cake schedules and then came back to earth last week. One will rebound, one will continue the descent into mediocrity

7:30 PM
Miami Florida 4
North Carolina -4

A lot of the shine came off this one after Miami pulled an all timer against GT, but the winner will still have the inside track to face FSU in the ACCCG.

7:30 PM
USC +2½
Notre Dame -2½

ND is reeling after likely being eliminated from playoff contention, while USC scraped together a third consecutive uninspiring win - this time without the excuse of being on the road. One team will right the ship.

8:00 PM
NC State +3½
Duke -3½

Can Duke survive without Riley Leonard?

8:00 PM
UCLA +3½
Oregon State -3½

It's bizarro chip kelly - UCLA somehow has one of the best defenses in the country, but can barely muster any offense. Winner is very live, loser is probably dead.

8:00 PM
UAB +9½
UTSA -9½

9:45 PM
Boise State -7½
Colorado State +7½

11:00 PM
San Diego State -6
Hawaii 6

I know no one outside of Nevada cares, but this will be the most entertaining game on Saturday. These games are always chippy and now competitive since Chris Ault left UNR.

unlv should s**tcan nevada if they're 4-1 record is legit but rankings go out the window for this matchup.

nevada has been weird. they've played a tough schedule (0-5 reflects this) but somehow lost to freaking idaho by more points than they lost to kansas, fresno st. & texas st.

6 weeks is plenty of football. I think we can all agree that these 4 fine institutions are very deserving and just start the playoffs now.

Here's a little tidbit you don't usually see at the bottom of an ESPN game recap:

Quote:
Missouri defensive end Johnny Walker Jr. was ejected in the third quarter after a second personal foul penalty. If anyone was wondering what occurred, referee Jason Autrey left his microphone on and told someone, “He spit on him.” Autrey also warned LSU right tackle Emery Jones Jr., the apparent victim, to “be cool” before shutting the mic off.

Louisville would lose to UGA/Bama like 50-3.

It's still:
UGA/Bama
FSU
OU/Texas
OSU/PSU

USC with outside chance.

UNC/Louisville will disappear. These states should stick to things they are good at like basketball.

I just hate Michigan, but they won't get through the MSU/PSU/OSU gauntlet unscathed.

Pac12 is just irrelevant noise produced by their alums in the LA media machine.

Considering both of these programs missed the NCAA tournament last season, you could argue that football is sticking to what they are actually good at

My dad and brother are visiting from the UK this week (I live in Chicago). I'm taking them to Wisconsin vs Iowa for a true taste of Americana.

A game where the home team are favoured by 10 and the total is 36 lololol.

I haven't been to Camp Randall for nearly 10 years, anyone know where people tend to hang out pregame? Used to be Regent or Monroe, still the case?

Yeah I just don't see how Michigan could possibly beat Michigan State, a team that is 5.5 point underdogs at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, NJ

Nice. No way to argue against that list without trolling since they're top 5 in wins and win%.

If Michigan wins the national title--which seems inevitable at this point--one will be able to say the same about my poasting too. Just giving everyone a fair warning.

Would strongly advise everyone to watch the HBO miniseries Chernobyl. Not only is it outstanding, it will allow one to understand Michigan State football at even deeper level.
