Top 10 Spenders

Here is a brief article explaining why OSU is so low. I guess we blow through some cash.

The profit #s are fuzzy too. If someone buys a Texas shirt from Kmart, they probably did it for football, but is it athletic revenue?

USC releases OT Seantrel Henderson from national LOI.

Weren't the Gators the runner-up in his initial recruitment?

Miami and Ohio State were. For ****'s sake the article you linked says that.

I understand what the article says. My recollection was UF was the runner-up for his services... hence my question. Jeeez.

He probably wanted money and now that we're under the gun we can't pay him anymore.

Good riddance if he goes to the U. They won't make a bowl game anyway. Their sched is stacked the next two years and Shannon is prob gonna get fired (actually that would help them make a bowl, nvm). tOSU seems the obvious choice for him but what do i know

Given the information in the police report, this was pretty inevitable.

Still, I've read that his contract has some teeth when it comes to termination and he might be getting a seven figure check from UGA as a result of being fired. He may have to fight the University in court to get this, as the contract contains numerous vague clauses about professional inside and outside the workplace. I would hope they can settle outside of court for a lot less and avoid completely tarnishing the man's legacy in Athens.
This is what happened for anyone interested in the resolution. He got something like $250k based on a couple different sections of his contract.

By far the desirable outcome imo.

They won't make a bowl game? They play in the ACC. Even if they schedule 4 OOC games against Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma, and Alabama, they would be a favorite to make a bowl game.

Considering all it takes is 6-6 to get a bowl game and alot of teams schedule at least 3 "gimmie" non-conference wins, making a bowl game isn't even an accomplishment. Not making one simply means you're in the bottom 50% of teams.

In fact I read an article about how the NCAA had recently pass a provision that would allow for 5-7 teams to go bowling under the circumstances there weren't enough teams to fill out bowl slots otherwise (with 2 new bowl games coming online soon this actually would have happened a few seasons ago, when you look at the # of teams .500 > and the number of bowl slots).

There is a reasonable chance that Miami loses 3 non-conference games (Pitt, Clemson, Ohio State). However, getting 5 wins out of their remaining schedule shouldn't be hard. I think they have a very good shot of winning one of those non-conference games as well.

Clemson in is the ACC, they have South Florida at home for their fourth ooc game.

Assuming a win over Florida A&M, they have to win 5 more with Duke, Virginia, and Maryland all on their schedule. I'd be shocked if they didn't get to at least 6-6 with this schedule.

I was being facetious. Apparently he thinks he'll get a bunch more 'exposure' or something playing in the Champs Sports Bowl, who knows.

September 2 Florida A&M
September 11 at Ohio State
September 23 at Pittsburgh
October 2 at Clemson
October 9 Florida State
October 16 at Duke
October 23 North Carolina
October 30 at Virginia
November 6 Maryland
November 13 at Georgia Tech
November 20 Virginia Tech
November 27 South Florida

I can see this team surprising people and knocking one or two of those teams off, but could just as easily see them start out 1-3 with a huge game against what should be an improved FSU squad at home. Maybe Shannon will pull a Dabo and get the team together by the end of the year. Point is that's a very unstable situation down there.

I thought Miami showed some flashes last year with Harris at QB. If he improves at all this year they are definitely going to surprise some people. I might put them as favorites in every game on that schedule besides OSU.

Kind of funny article about a third string UGA player arrested for obstruction. I don't know the facts surrounding this, but it almost sounds like a parody of an article about a university police department trying to let a player off the hook:

Quote:
Georgia football player Jordan Love was arrested late Monday night on a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of a law enforcement officer, but UGA Police Chief Jimmy Williamson told the AJC today that the arrest now appears to have stemmed from a “breakdown in communications.”

Williamson said UGA Police responded to a complaint about three individuals shooting off fireworks outside McWhorter Hall, an East Campus Village dormitory, and arrested Love at the scene for obstruction because he would not provide his full name to the officer. Williamson said Love would not or could not give his middle name.

...

“The circumstances as being reported now is the individual just doesn’t go by that middle name,” Williamson added. “There are personal reasons why, and I don’t want to divulge the circumstances, but talking to those people -– the point they made seems very reasonable. The officer didn’t know those facts at the time."

Sometimes verbal communication doesn’t go as well as you’d hope,” Williamson told the AJC.

...

“When I see all of it, as police chief, I do think we could have done better. I will say as a department that could been handled better and done better."

lolwtf?

I really don't think that is what's happening here, but it's like these quotes from UGA's police chief are trying to make it sound that way.

Can I use this thread to vent about how much I hate the NCAA? Well I am, that organization can go to hell.

First they deny me a transfer request even after my head coach signed off on me as long as I didn't transfer in conference. Second they denied me my medical hardship year taking away a possible year of eligibility. Now their ****ing 2 grad assistant rule. After spending 12 months interviewing and finding a job at a good D1AA program they cut the maximum number of GA's to 2 at the D1A level and now D1AA is following suit.

Honestly, its as if there is someone in Indianapolis that really hates me. At least Coastal plans on doing something for me, not sure what yet, but it just got a bit more expensive for me to attend Grad school and they **** on my potential resume builder. God damnit.

“Mr. Love gave his first and last name, but he said he didn’t know his middle name, then said he kind of knew it, but didn’t know how to spell it,” Williamson said.

The oh so difficult middle name? Lawrence.

im a pitt person so obv bias. but i cant see them being a favorite against Pitt in Heinz field. Pitt is bringing back one of the best freshman rb's in the country who got seriously slighted in all major rb lists, in Dion Lewis, the big east offensive player of the year in wr Jonathon Baldwin, and a slightly diminished DL that led the nation in sacks..

but of course they could disappoint me again...

Apparently, like 8-10 of the Univ of Tenn football players were involved in a fight at a bar in downtown Knoxville tonight. 4-5 defensive starters and a couple high profile freshmen. They knocked out an undercover police officer. There's thread on the rivals recruiting board.
