UNC's team defense #'s last year (ranks are in all of Division 1A):

Rush defense - 10th
Pass efficiency defense - 14th
Total defense - 6th
Scoring defense - 13th

They basically return all of that defense including several guys who would have been picked in the top 3 rounds and a few guys (Bruce Carter, Marvin Austin) who probably would have gone in the first round. Their defense should be absolutely filthy this year.

The problem is that TJ Yates is the QB and ehh. He actually played pretty well as a sophomore (11 TD/4 INT, 60% completion, around 1200 yards passing in about 6 games) but he also had two NFL WR's to throw to that year in Hakeem Nicks and Brandon Tate. His JR year was a disaster for the most part, so I'm not sure what to expect.

The obvious goal is going to be to grind the clock, score a few points, and let our defense win a lot of games. They open up against LSU in Atlanta which should be a nice opening game. If they get any sort of consistency
on offense they should be a strong contender to win the conference.

edit: They return 21 out of 22 starters overall. Holla.

Naw you can't blame the guy, cus at the end of the day no matter how good he is there's someone to take his place. Even Tim Kawakami, who's excellent, didn't step up when he was yelled at by some Raiders organization scrub.

Texas had its Spring game this past Sunday. The name of the game this spring has been Gilbert under center, but the Spring game saw plenty of shotgun.

Gilbert has a gun, and looked awesome in the spring game. Also excited about DeSean Hales and TE/H back Barrett Mattews. BM put a srs juke on C Brown, and Aaron Williams in the flat.

DT Quincy Russell committed on Sun, then decommitted today...wtf. The Westerman commit is massive. Arguably best OL in country, and Orangeblood's guys say he would be #2 on LSR. 2011 OL recruiting is done, even with Hegarty's offer out there.

I don't think there's much doubt this year. They'd go over the vast majority of undefeated teams from BCS conferences. I mean they're going to start what like #5 in the preseason polls? And they'll probably crack the Top 3 if they win at Va. Tech.
