The crazy thing is we shouldn't be that bad on defense. Demetrius Jackson is a lottery pick with crazy athleticism. Vasturia has decent size and defensive fundamentals. Auguste is 6'10 and athletic. Sure, our other two guys are a fat 6'5 post player and a guy who's 6'8, 175 pounds, give or take, but plenty of teams find a way to hide some guys on defense. Our defensive rotations and just overall team defense is a wonder to behold.

Pretty sure Auguste has the lowest bball IQ on the defensive end in recorded history, it's remarkable. Said fat 6'5 guy actually leads the team in blocks despite playing fewer minutes. Also I believe Auguste has made a throat slash gesture at the end of the last two games, both close, just begging for a technical foul. He truly is an infuriating player to have to root for.

But really, all I ask for is a defense that's merely bad. Be the hundredth best defense in the country and we're a fringe top 10 team probably. Stop being BC for half of every game

Zach Auguste is a truly infuriating player to watch. His BBIQ is I believe the lowest in the history of the sport. There's something wrong with him. I'm certainly guilty of this with other players as I rarely watch CBB games outside of ND but having people comment on how good he was last tournament was so frustrating because he has the tools to be so much better than he actually is.

I also maintain that Mike Brey is an abysmal in-game coach.

UVA - 7/40
Duke - 4/123
ND - 1/236

That's a lot of fun to watch basketball imo
Those splits are probably due to the speed of the game. If your offense is scoring quickly, you have more possessions during the course of the game. That means the opponent has more possessions as well.

What kind of points per possession are those teams giving up?

Not news to anyone but Arkansas is bad and should feel bad. Oh and Rutgers is playing tonight, lol

I was probably way too optimistic that the frosh would do as well in the ACC as last year's frosh (and that losing Amile would only be a small deal). The defense is just *miserably* bad, offense is still doing quite well. But with so many frosh, no Amile, and the start of conference play, Duke is just getting shredded. #123 in defense on kenpom. You can be a fringe title contender with a great offense and a #40 ranked defense (like they were earlier in the year), but you can't do it in the 100 range.

Oh well. Duke still gonna be fun to watch this year even if they're not a serious title threat. Still gonna have fun beating UNC. Definitely could make some noise in the tourney given the offensive firepower, even if they're massive longshots to win. I'm still on the championship high from last year, so this trouble this year is just w/e.
Personally I'm gonna view it as a pretty big fail if UNC doesn't sweep this dook team

I hear some talk out there that the B12 is CBB's top conference (edging out the ACC). However, when we look at the top and kenpom's top 50, we can rationally conclude that the ACC is the class of CBB at this point in the season:

L'ville #2

Oklahoma #3

N. Carolina #5

West Virginia #6

Virginia #8

Kansas #10

Miami, FL #13

Iowa St. #18

d00k #20

Baylor #22

Notre Dame #31

Texas #35

Florida St. #38

Syracuse #39

Kansas St. #44

Texas Tech #48

Pittsburgh #49

Newcomers N.D., L'ville, 'Cuse, and Pitt have helped to keep the ACC the nation's premier CBB conference.

The problem with that is that there are only 2 Big 12 teams not listed there. So 14 of your 18 conference games are against KenPom Top 50 (16/18 if you're OSU or TCU.).

Six ACC teams are outside the Top 50. UNC plays 7 conf games in January and only 2 are top 50, and they are 38 and 39. To contrast, Oklahoma never has back to back games outside the top 50 in their entire conference slate.

Plus B12 is true round robin, ACC is imbalanced and with 6 scrub squads you could come up with a 10-8 ACC team that isn't good. 10-8 in B12 means at minimum you were 6-8 vs Top 50.

Black Aces spells it out pretty well. There are 15 ACC teams and 10 Big 12 teams. You just listed 8/10 Big 12 teams and 9/15 ACC teams. The average strength of the big 12 is greater.

I wouldn't expect intellectual honesty from a Carolina fan. Remember they think they aren't duke Jr.

Black Aces and BigSooner bring up some fair points. After all, the ACC is 50% bigger than the B12. Maybe the B12 does get the nod???

The game of the day in the ACC? How about tonight's tilt where k and his hapless group of misfits (riding a 3 game losing streak) travel a few miles down the road to Moo U. A loss for d00k drops them into the abyss -- the bottom 1/3 of the ACC.

They do. You'd have to take out the bottom two teams of the ACC to get their average Kenpom rating (38.8) close to that of the Big 12's (38.3). That's even keeping 140th ranked TCU in there.

BC has to be one of the WOAT major conference teams. Their incompetence is truly staggering to behold. What a gift to play them twice every single year
