fwiw i'm currently co-owning with geoff, but if he really wanted to jump in and manage his own team that'd be understandable.

seems like christopherson/twigley should be replaced with some reg who was shut out.

I'm taking Joel Anthony

Anytime you can take an undersized Canadian center with a single digit usage and below average efficiency, you got to. This dude is diabetes mixed with AIDS and is so bad that even with LeBron, Wade, and Bosh on their team, they only succeeded by removing his broke ass from the lineup and playing even smaller.

He's a foundational player in this league, just been terrible for so long, inexplicably started a bunch of games last year (lol spo), getting worse, fewer minutes, and on the wrong side of 30. He's going to crash and burn Dale Earhardt style in this league.

With the 12th pick in the draft, I select

Mychel Thompson started 3 games and played in 5 last year. Undrafted after 4 years at the prestigious Pepperdine University, the Cavs signed him for like $100,000 in December and cut him in February. Not really much to say that hasn't been said about Afghanistan.

2.2 PER, 37.5 TS%, 13.7USG%, can't shoot, can't dribble, can't pass, can't defend, can't play. He made Knicks the training camp this year but was cut to make room for James White. This is the only youtube vid of him I could find playing an NBA game. He gets blocked by Jeff Green:

yup Thompson was #1 on my board

and this is why I think its a major mistake to have the rules the way they are. Picks like Thompson are clearly not what the draft was intended for(but not knocking you for making the pick- I would've picked him as well)

I was under the impression that you had to start at least 34 games last year. Actual rule kinda dumb, but w/e, good pick I guess.

As a spectator, would much rather read about 28 mpg bench players than 3 lines (not blaming the writeup, not sure what else there is to say) about someone who was clearly never good enough for the league and happened to start 3 games.

btw, I'm totally fine with a rule change so guys like that can't be picked. I won't be butthurt and I got a couple other dudes I'd be happy to draft at this point.

lol Mychel Thompson was on the top of my list too once I did a little research. It's definitely an angleshoot pick in the sense that it's not really in the spirit of the draft but is definitely within the rules.

a few tidbits about Thompson that I had come across and was preparing to include in my writeup had he slipped to me:

-He went in the 3rd round of the draft...the D League draft

-In his last 3 years of college, his best TS% was 46.0

-In the DLeague last year he put up 12.2 PER and 50.0% TS

-In the Summer League this year he put up 9.1 PER and 37.0% TS

-The official D League site only ranks him as the 21st most likely player to get called up this year: http://www.nba.com/dleague/news/pros...012_11_06.html

-But perhaps best of all is the reason he got to play in the NBA in the first place:

Quote:
Thompson's father, Mychal, played 12 seasons in the NBA. He was the No. 1 overall pick by the Portland Trail Blazers in 1978 — the first foreign-born player (Bahamas) to hold that distinction.

He played his last five seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he became friends with Scott. Mychal Thompson called Scott before training camp and campaigned for his son.

The only knock on your writeup is your mention of his defense. From my research he actually is a good defender(or the scouting reports think he can be, obviously we don't have enough of an actual NBA sample size to say for sure). He wasn't on my radar prior to this recent discussion about the minutes played/games started rule, but I think hes a top tier pick alongside guys like Fisher and Biyombo.

agreed....I like the pick, but I thought Deanglow could've done more research and had a better writeup(my above post contains some good stuff that should've been included for example)

edit: did enjoy " Not really much to say that hasn't been said about Afghanistan" however.

Bobbo, before moving on you need to make a decision: Do you want to open this can of worms and allow picks like this? As Deanglow said:

Can you now see why your rules aren't optimal?

I liked the idea of guys like Thompson, fwiw.

There arent many of those exception guys at all, and I thought that it favored the clever.

Ruling stands, pick will be up shortly.

yea seems like Bobbo has been a bit unclear:

I still don't see why he has refused to consider the option that the majority seems to favor(minutes played instead of games started). I mean, I understand this:

My apologies. Just felt like running a tighter ship would make things smoother.
But "running a tighter ship" shouldn't mean completely ignoring suggestions.

Bobbo can't even run a fantasy draft, he will not be my TZ GM and run a real draft when I win the first billion dollar powerball and buy a team

I'm taking Raja Bell. Want to know how bad he is?

Somehow he duped the Jazz into starting 33 games (of his 34), despite being a 35 yr old with a 8.3 PER. Coasting off his defensive chops, his last positive defensive impact season was 2008-09.

And yet he's still on an NBA team! The Utah Jazz are paying Raja to sit at home. He has no offensive game, his defense has evaporated, AND he's a malcontent. Oh, he's also 36 this year.

Team Bobbofitos:

W - Raja Bell

Lookin at some tantalizing pairings here at the wrap. So much ineptitude still on the board. It's going to suck when Round 3 rolls around and serviceable, nay useful, players are all that's left.

I've run many drafts, including the most successful one ever (Hollywood draft). Kinda silly to rip this.

As an observer who is loving this thread (and particularly the #work Assani is putting in, which is elite), the enjoyment and humor is greatly enhanced when the drafted player is an actual NBA trainwreck who sucks up NBA minutes and NBA assets (like Biyombo), rather than a regrettable one-night-stand whom no one ever actually considered a starter.

to the career losers, not the unfortunate call-ups who don't work out on a 10-day contract or whatever
