They’re choosing that by keeping two bigs on the court to get the switches they like for Luka.

Yeah only 13.33~ Million for each 3 pointer. But with Ballmer being worth 74.1 billion that was a pure value play.

I’m seriously ready to move on from Carlisle. Playing Burke over Brunson in game 7 is a fireable offense. There is no possible explanation that anyone could give me that would make that decision make sense.

Whew. GG Mavs. Luka is such a beast. Literally any other “2nd star” besides Porzingis and this team is a title contender the next 5 years.

Luka is unbelievable, one of the best playoff series performances I've ever seen.

Porzingis however is basically White Andre Drummond. Dude sucks.

Luka needs to take the Qualifying Option in 22-23 and become an UFA!

2022-23 Contract details by year 23 QO: $13,348,801

1. He's already an international superstar so he'll already be making serious BANK off the court by then.
2. Even if he has a terrible injury he's still getting a MAX in 2023.
3. PICK YOUR OWN DAMN TEAM, COACH, AND TEAMMATES! He has to be pissed at Porzingis.
4. ?????
5. Print RANGZZZZZ

I got it. This is how LUKA solves the NBA.

He takes the Qualifying Option in 22-23 and then does a 1+1 player option deal to coincide with Zion Williamson taking the Qualifying Option in 23' and then they both become a free agent in 2024.

Then they both go to the same team! Luka's ability to create + Zion's gravity would BREAK the league!

We saw this for 20 years with Lebron. It looks like we'll see it again with Luka, so we should get ready for "it" (the inevitable need for ready-made talent because team strategy, brand or young players are stalled by having spot-up roles imposed on everyone).

It's easy to conflate high shot attempts with high hold-time (ball-dominance).

Off-guards like MJ or Reggie Miller could take 30 shots without barely dribbling or touching the ball (Jordan was obviously more ball-dominant than Miller, but he was still an off-guard and nowhere near Luka or point guards).

Other than the 41 games in Jordan's career that he played point guard (32/8/9 according to NBC Sports), he never held the ball or used live dribbles as much as Luka - no one outside of Harden or Lebron has matched Luka's time of possession in this series..

This matters because Luka will have to change his style or collude to win, while Jordan didn't have to change anything - other than 1st Round losses in 86' and 87', Jordan had career-high usage in the 93', 97', or 98' Playoffs, and 36/7/8 in the 91-93' Finals... So he didn't change or "tone it down" to win rings - he simply proved that his unprecedented style of winning (scoring champ carry-jobs) was the most dominant way to win (6/6).
.
Or you just lean in to it. Throw the bag at Jaren Jackson Jr, see if you can get Mikal Bridges and/or Duncan Robinson and then maybe take on Markkanen on the cheap as a reclaimation project. Just a zillion guys that can make threes and then let Luka do work

3 pointers obv the difference this game. Morris 7 of 9 showed he is ready for the Jazz. He seems to be a matchup problem, I don't see Bogdanovic slowing him down outside, guessing O'Neale matches up better with PG.

I got Clipps slight series faves, -110, but I expect Jazz to be the betting fave. I imagine smart money will come in on Jazz G1 as they get extra rest pushing line to -4 or so. Guessing G2 settles around -2. Jazz bench probably needs to step up a bit. Ingles has been a no show so far, but if Clarkson keeps coming up big that's going to put pressure on Clipps big 2 down the stretch.

Dallas prob still won that trade. Mid-late first round pick value has crashed through the floor the past couple years. THJ is fine as a 6th man, but doesn’t add anything else. Josh Richardson turning into a pumpkin hurt then a lot. He was supposed to be a better Finney-Smith and was a total zero.

Not surprisingly, that's how the Clippers beat Luka - their ball movement, high team assists and high number of spot-ups was wearing Dallas down in Game 7, so Dallas became unable to make shots.

And this goes back to Luka and Lebron's ball-dominance - their ball-dominance doesn't shift defenses/wear down teams like the ball movement they face on the championship level, so opponents are always fresher with more capacity to "go off" offensively..

Clippers were going off today down the stretch..
Luka is basically a better version of Harden (in the playoffs imo) because he is bigger and can make more high leverage shots, I think he's a little better passer as well.

The rockets built championship level teams in '18 and '19 around Harden that were not exactly loaded.

The Cavs were hardly super teams unless you are a huge Kevin Love stan.

If a Warriors/Durant merger happens again then everyone is screwed but I don't see building perennial contenders around Luka as a challenging endeavor.

In general I think the league is coming into a time of more parity, the days of the best players racking up 3-4-5 rings are probably over so I guess the media narratives could run wild some as Luka continues to fail.

Also, did you watch the series? The Mavs superior passing/ball movement leading to good looks for average players is what kept them in the series. The Clippers were the team that had to work harder for their pts, they just were a lot more talented overall.

I think you are somewhat right about atrophy of player development around a high usage guy, I do agree w/ that but good Morey level team building around said guy should mitigate that.

Damn I mains myself kind of agreeing with Trainwreckog what is the world coming to?

My issue with that sort of ball-dominance is I just don’t think you can sustain it for four series in a row unless you are in Lebron-level shape, and even the you are susceptible to matchup issues imo.
