This inaccurate these days Geoff. First, Paul Millsap has really, really regressed defensively from the last three years. They were able to cobble together a decent enough defense, especially in the playoffs as the series progressed, with Millsap/Joker as your front court, but they haven't been good this year because Paul doesn't have the skillset to play defense with Jokic anymore. You need to be able to tag and recover quickly because Denver plays up or traps almost every PnR. This year it's been bad with those two, 117.4 DRTg over 1400 possessions, which 28th over a decent sample. They are still a positive (+3) because any lineup with Jokic scores, but it's not ideal.
MPJ/Jokic as the front-court has worked, and it's because MPJ provides a lot of what Millsap did with rim-protection and deflections but adds athleticism and size, at the expense of IQ and experience of course. MPJ/Jokic lineups have allowed 109.3 DRTg, which would be good for 6th behind Phoenix. There is some SSS there, but I doubt it's below average with those two. Tucker yuck, the future doesn't involve MPJ chasing 3's around imo.
Afa defense is concerned, sure it's worse in the regular season but he can't be schemed against like your standard drop-centers can, and I think that's one of the big reasons why he's been more successful than Joel or Rudy, or KaT in that regard. It's on both ends where his game gains value in the postseason.
It's gone a little unnoticed how successful he's been, and the team has been with him as their lone all-star.
