Roddy Beaubois was the 25th pick who rose up the draft ranks late due to measurables. MPJ was the #1/2 mocked player prior to the 2017 season and #1/2 recruit, coming off one of the most dominant 12 months in Prep history. He led a previously 3-18 Nathan Hale team to the national title over powerhouses like Sierra Canyon and Oak Hill. He then backed that up in the EYBL (Co-MVP with Trae Young) and also took home the Macdonald's Game MVP to boot. There hadn't been a HS senior to make that kind of a run since Lebron.

I'm not sure there are comps with that pedigree that didn't at least become top 30 players with that sort of rookie season except for guys who got injured like Oden. Derrick Rose maybe, but he had four years of being quite dominant, if overrated. His injury concern is real, but barring that I'm not seeing much that doesn't put him into the trajectory of a future star.

I think he has been (rightfully) trying to frame his legacy. And a huge point in his favor is never missing a playoff game.
