I was pushing hard this summer for the Mavs to add either another scorer with the ball or a Steven Adams type center.

Adams would've screwed up their flexibility and there's no guarantee it would work, but you basically have a 7'3" guy who is mobile enough to guard 4s, so the obvious advantage would be to put ANOTHER real center out there and just completely own the paint.

But of course it could also destroy chemistry/spacing which is the risk.

KP has been beyond amazing recently. He’s been great defensively all year and now has been great offensively for a long stretch. I don’t want to get into it again, but how anyone had an opinion that the KP trade was bad for the Mavs is beyond me (hardaway playing well makes it even better than I initially expected). The future looks great, and I can’t wait for the playoffs.

Hopefully we can have everyone healthy going into the home stretch. We can still be dangerous with KP and a healthy Luka and curry. Although, I am a little worried about how Luka will fare against playoff defenses. I think it may be a little rough for him. But that's a good problem to have and will be fun to watch.
I think this is somewhat true, but only in the short term. I would trust the Mavs with Luka & without KP over a 20 game stretch much more than a team without Luka but with KP over the same stretch. Also, Luka's one handed right now.

The problem in my opinion is that when games are close late, defenses just run an all out bltiz on Luka and they are dribbling the clock down to 8 seconds before this happens so they have no time to adjust. Carlisle needs to anticipate this and either start Luka on the block or play faster. If they go with 16 seconds left on the shot clock and they blitz Luka, they are going to be giving up wide open shots. But the Bulls game for example, Luka found one guy, but they'd close out to him and there'd be no time to do anything.

Maybe he was meta referencing the old Jason Kidd quote when he got drafted and said that he was "going to turn this team around 360 degrees"

I always love j Kidd quotes. His basketball savantness always amazed me because he is dumb as a rock about everything not related to basketball.

It was obvious that this marvelous muppet was straight up guessing.

And he goes on to win jeopardy for that day too.

Not really. We did until his boneheaded play cost us Game 1 of the last Cavs-Warriors Finals match-up, and then despite getting a fat contract he whined and pouted all last season. In the end we were happy for him to be gone.

I think the league wants Clips to get the 2 seed, for the LA vs LA match up in WCF. This rockets team isn't getting any calls vs clips now. Missed a call on a harden and westbrook drive (i have money on clips

He’s a lock for a standing ovation at a cavs game, despite recent issues.

The only thing I'd compare to Dirk is their lack of perceived toughness coming into the league. Doncic can actually play a little passive at times and I don't want to use the word soft but if he gets even tougher and stronger on offense holy ****.

Nothing else but their casual smoothness really compares.

Not sure if I mentioned all this in the question a while back about a friend who is the all-time leading rebounder (per game) in Notre Dame history.

Was just writing it up in a book I'm working on, and there is one detail too juicy to resist posting about it. Walt once played in a scrimmage game against Oscar Robertson, which Oscars side won 137-122. He's telling me that Oscar scored 56 points, had 17 rebounds and 13 assists I think it was on those last two stats, but the 56 points on 17-22 shooting from field and 22-22 from FT line. So the 56 checked out as he was telling me the story. All this off the top of his head from a scrimmage game 50+ years ago.

I just sat there and listened. Then he said it was "a quiet 56, Oscar was like that ... you didn't think he was doing that much."

Unflippin' believable.

They are both a little stiff legged as they run. Doncic's shot from 3 seems so soft and feathery, but his % isn't really that great so can't really say he's a pure shooter. Hope he raises that up to around 40% or so at least some years. I do think he'll get his FT % up over 80, but harder to get the 3s up.

Yeah. Yeah. Definitely.

Last night. Overtime. (Luka's playing on a swollen ankle (from repeated small twists over the past month). Also, his left thumb is sprained and in some sort of protective binding which is affecting his dribble.)

Two plays before this Luka hit a step back three. The play before this he slipped a pocket pass through a key-hole to allow KP to finish with an emphatic dunk. Then he did this.
