Paul chose the night before the year as the Celtics gave him the choice.

They were going to recognize IT when he returned before but IT asked them to wait until he was playing again. He said it's bc he wanted his family there but it's obvious he wanted to stick it to them like Spree did to NY in his comeback game. That's where Pierce is saying IT punked them before.

Isn't a tribute video mostly for the fans to show thanks? It take 2 mins. If I was a Celtics fan and thought IT deserved a video I think it be cool to be at the game for both but guess Pierce says nah.

Idk - and idrc - but I guess it makes the extraneous (to the game at hand) celebration of Pierce less focussed - and there's really no reason to do that - it seems cack-handed not to give him all the hoopla attention on the day. Ofc, there can be politics about whether Pierce should be allowed to choose a day to veto IT's tiny comeback thanks video - and there the Celts management should step up and make a firm choice either way. (Not particularly lolCeltsing here - same goes for any other team.)

fwiw - the league should ban whatever tf it was that happened at the halftime of a recent mavs-knicks game - where the Derek Harper jersey retirement took 45 minutes and the players had to have a ~10 minute warm up period because they and the fans were so distanced from the game. (That was an assinine fail perhaps induced by Harper having been a respected Knick as well.)

Is Brow just the best player in the league or also the best player of all time?

See the discussions upstream itt re this year's MVP, most of which was not absurd - but I'll allow promoting the Brow into that convo if he kicks Boogie so hard in the nuts in practice sometime before the All-star break that Boogie has to miss the rest of the season and sulkingly opts out.

the celtics org prob handled it poorly to begin with. seems like they didn't think pierce would care, which was quite wrong so i suppose they should have known better. still weak on his part imo

edit: maybe he hasn't recovered from draymond ethering him and needs the solo validation

If you read all the quotes it actually seems like the real story is how all the old Celtics are rustled by how emo IT was about being traded, and how the org has placated him publicly after the fact.

They clearly have disdain for him.

Pierce:
Quote:
"(Thomas) had a shot to be honored," Pierce said. "You came to Boston. Whether you are playing or not, you should have had your tribute then. I just don't see how, if someone is having a jersey retirement, they're going to be running other tributes for other players.

"Danny tried to sell me on it, but I told him, 'He had a shot, Danny, and he punked you on it. He pretty much dictated everything.' They let it happen because they felt sorry how (the trade to Cleveland) went down. It's guilt. That's what it is."
Rondo:
Quote:
"What has [Thomas] done?" Rondo said before Tuesday's game, according to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. When told how Thomas led Boston to the East finals, Rondo replied, "Oh, that's what we celebrate around here?"

Rondo, now of the Pelicans, later added: "This is the Boston Celtics. This isn't the Phoenix Suns. No disrespect to any other organization but [the Celtics] don't hang conference titles."
Tony Allen:
Quote:
"I'm with Pierce, man," said Allen. "(Thomas) didn't put in more work than Paul. Anybody disagree? OK. Paul Pierce put in big work, man. Why would they honor (Thomas) on that same day, man?

"Let my man get his jersey retired, man. Let him embrace that, man. He put a lot of blood, sweat and tears in this organization, man, and capitalized and had some good results. (Pierce) struggled with the team. I remember losing 19 straight with that man. Turned around and won a championship (the next season). Talk about Paul Pierce, man, don't mention (Thomas') name, the guys' name that don't stand in the same frame."
Garnett:
Quote:
"Everyone understood where I was coming from," Pierce said. "KG was like, 'Isaiah who? Hell no, you're damn right you're not sharing your night with him.'"

Pierce picked the Cavs game for his night because it'd be high profile; he just messed it up not knowing it would be IT's first game back.

They are wrong on the Ray Allen stuff, but they are 100% right on IT

The dude played 2 seasons in Boston, and was great 1 season there, but still wasn't a top 10 player itl

Pierce picked Cavs game because he hates LBJ

coming at IT2 doesn't make any sense. the C's picked the date. they couldn't have known when the game would be in advance maybe, but they could have chosen a later time. in the best case it's misplaced anger

it makes total sense because he's the one that said the original date doesn't work for him, after playing there for two seasons. celtics should have ignored him but they were trying to be nice, now they're doing the right thing and letting pierce call the shots on his night.

caring about it at all, especially if you're not a celtics fan, makes the least sense.

They let PP choose the date before the season started and marketed it accordingly.

Weeman should be thankful he's getting a video of any sort and should have taken it the other week when he was there, regardless of whether he was playing or not. Stand up, take your applause and jog on mate.

Celtics should have just told him take your video tribute when we give it to you or don't get one at all. He played there two years and was barely a top ten pg in the league. Don't get why he thinks he's so special.

Well that's the other thing: he did that the last time he was there too.
