Why do some people think that despite absolutely crushing everything at 20 mpg, Wright will just be backup level at 30 mpg?

Looked it up, once in 08-09 when they were 5th, tied with... Dallas. Lol Rondo.

Diminishing marginal returns.

Part of me thinks he's gone too.. that's the only thing that makes sense.

Brewer to the Rockets for the TPE is happening it looks like. I like it for them and may have to root for the Rox.

Reminder in amongst the worst trades of all time that the Bargnani trade was biblical.

I'm certainly not defending this trade but I think the argument for it goes something like

1. Rondo will be much more productive playing for the Mavs than he has been for the Celtics

2. The Mavs will have a hard time acquiring Rondo during free agency, and he might not make it to free agency

3. Brandan Wright is the most valuable thing the Mavs are giving up in the trade.. since it is a contract year, and they may struggle to resign him anyway.. he can be viewed as an acceptable loss

Brandan Wright is almost on par with Nene for productivity this year btw, also he should continue to improve

his numbers are probably slightly inflated since they are coming from a reserve role but he is still a starter-caliber center

Funny seeing the reaction between here and /r/nba, complete contrast.

BWright gets murdered by starting centers. He is also pretty useless in the playoffs. People forget he got benched last year in playoffs for DeJuan Blair.

I like the trade for the Mavs. Rondo is elite running P&R, Dirk and Tyson two of the best in the league as the screener. Decent bet to disrupt opposition PG in playoffs.

Brandan Wright will be overpaid this summer, he's an average or below-average rebounder and defender, while his offensive game is hugely dependent on teammates giving him the ball within 5 feet of the rim. He shoots such a high % because he rarely takes a shot that isn't someone else setting him up for a dunk or layup.

155 ORTG in 90 mins (6 games) in 2014 playoffs.

More Carlisle wizardry to play Blair over him.

For the record i rate Crowder as a player i think he's arguably an above average backup wing
12-18-2014 , 09:29 PM
Is Rondo elite at PnR? I would think he'd be the easiest PG to guard since he's zero threat to score shooting off the dribble and is a below-average finisher at the rim.

This. He's fine off the bench and he's still 2 years away from peaking.

iirc some stat had him 1st or 2nd (him or Dirk?) at midrange jumpers itl though that's because like you said they always just go underneath him.

if he's canning them that game then it's gonna be a weapon

Dunno where you found that stat but it must be extremely SSS. He's a career <42% shooter from 16-23feet and 40 and 32 the last 2 seasons. He did have a nice run 3 years ago though

Season thread been historically lol today. I'm not sure which was my favourite: the hate Seadood got for mentioning his team, the suggestion Boston got a bad haul for Rondo, the suggestion lolknax have more title equity than Philly by 2019 or the implicit suggestion that Kobe wasn't the best laker in 09-10.

Be nice if he started canning his midrange free throws

Who said Boston got a bad haul? And you're wrong about the rest being wrong so lol at you and the dumpster of a city that is Philly

Too much hyperbole over the trade

It's nowhere near a horrible trade or "worst trade"

It's likely in Boston's favor, but Dallas has outs
12-18-2014 , 10:09 PM
Did I hear that right on ESPN.... Mavs went from 15-1 to title to favs in Vegas after trade
12-18-2014 , 10:11 PM
Dallas pick has that two way protection that's become popular lately, it goes to Boston this year if it's 4-14, otherwise it's top 7 protect for the 6 years afte rthat
12-18-2014 , 10:11 PM
Things people seem to be ignoring:

Dallas' 1st has lotto protections
The overall future EV if it works out and they re-sign him
How little EV they're truly risking
Value in Rondo sign and trade this offseason
Bigs that Cuban have in mind/knows are available

I'm not sure why people are saying Rondo and Ellis are such a terrible fit, Isn't Monta super tiny and Rondo has like a 6'10 wingspan? It seems like by far the Mavs biggest need is guard defense and size from their guards, you can critcize Rondo's defensive tendencies but the talent and size is there. It's also safe to assume that Carlisle/Dirk etc. are on board with this so they have confidence in it working.
