Bud def good...but he was pop assistant for like 15 years and he was involved in trade decisions...he is the one that convinced the rest to trade Hill for Kiwi...

#1 he has a CHISELLED JAWLINE which is in stark contrast to the amorphous blob that mjax called a face. ultimately mjax's fat face led to his downfall because the goatee was fooling no one and it just created an awkward and uncomfortable environment for all. chiselled jaw is scientifically proven to command respect and obedience

his interview today had a few encouraging titbits about the offence he wants to run, emphasising ball movements and curry pnrs. so i'm hopeful that his tactical acumen is up to scratch. he seems to be pretty measured and pragmatic in general, which is a good mindset for a coach. i don't think he is a massive tard on the broadcast in general

he'll need some good assistants on board to make sure the d stays good and to get through the growing pains but i think he has a good 'pedigree' to be a good coach eventually. of course he could also be scott brooks 2.0 which is why svg would've been a better hire. but he's clearly a better option than a lol retread like dantoni or lionel ****ing hollins
Yup, and although svg is better in a vacuum, there was still the poison pill of Otis smith, which is something wasn't aware of when they went after svg. Lolotis.

Always thought Rambis got a raw deal in Minny and makes much more sense than Kerr for NYC

Remember when Kevin Durant hit that 3 with 3:23 left in game 5? Clips called an immediate TO.

Brett Brown is the man. An elite coach for sure.

btw, how much $ do we have on lakers getting the top pick? i forget our bet, and it's 5 days away (!!)
What is the bet, just curious?

Since it is supposed to be on pure odds I'm guessing 1 of you thinks riggage gonna take place?

i think there's a small chance of rigging for the lakers so im betting on them getting the 1st pick, thats all
05-15-2014 , 02:02 PM
What is the bet though? They have a 6.3% chance according to non-riggage.

Is it a 16-1 bet?

i think it's something like my 15 to win 220 or something. not sure the exact numbers.

Silver is clearly too smart for that, he'll rig it for #3, not #1.
05-15-2014 , 02:17 PM
The thing with the rig argument is a lot of times you can make a case for even unlikely teams having it rigged for them.

Bucks (just sold for 550billion)
Sixers (just had worst record ever, been a down market for awhile now that used to be big for NBA)

Kinda like how you could say Cle got #1 after LeBron left to throw them a bone or NO got it after the Pelicans were bought.

Still no clue why they didn't throw the Celts Durant in 2007 though, maybe they knew Seattle needed him more?

Duncan in '97 too
05-15-2014 , 02:24 PM
ok, well, im actually putting some money in it because i think all those organizations suck and are scrubbish, whereas the lakers are THE LA LAKERS. so i dont think they would rig it for the lolbucks or lolsixers, but they very well could for the LA LAKERS

looks like this is our laker bet, bobbo

btw ford was saying today that the celtics probably like 1. embiid and they also like exum a ton. if they slide down the order ainge is a gordon fan.

^throw in marcus smart as the sleeper that they refuse to leak info about and that is perfect. hope chad is right about this one bc it's way better than his old story that we were taking 1. wiggins

Does anybody remember off the top of their head during which game's halftime Kenny was visibly disgusted with the NFL draft kiss (before blasting Sterling a little later)? I didn't see it but I should have it DVR'ed if it does indeed exist.

can someone explain the coaching interest in fred hoiberg to me?

i'm not really seeing what makes him so atractive

Last edited by monikrazy; 05-15-2014 at 02:33 PM. Reason: except maybe the cheap buyout

If its rigged they gotta hook the Celts up

Let 1 of the NBAs signature franchises basically suck for 15 years.

what is there not to like?

-he took a mediocre program w/ limited access to talent from perennial fringe top 100 to perennial top 25 in his 2nd through 4th seasons. that is a super quick turn around for a coach with limited experience

-he pays attention to analytics and seems to be a great offensive mind. they do things that make sense (valuing the 3, taking 2 for 1's, taking open shots instead of draining the shot clock for no logical reason) and run great plays. and he managed to limit defensive leaks while building an elite NBA-ish offense. love the way he built his team.

-he has a great personality and does well at maximizing the production of headcases like royce white and deandre kane.

basically the guy appears to know what he is doing on all fronts and to me has by far the most upside as an NBA coach of all current college coaches. i have a really hard time finding things to dislike about him.
05-15-2014 , 03:07 PM
How about the fact that he's never had to deal with NBA egos from a management perspective? I'm sure that's gotta be worth something, and this is more than me just yelling at clouds. The transition from college to pros seems much more difficult (historically) than NBA assistant to pro--one of our best examples might be STEVENS who the jury is still out on.

I could see him going to a young crappy team, but GSW/NYK seem like bad fits in the locker room.
05-15-2014 , 03:10 PM
Nah, think it's mostly you yelling at clouds. He's seen NBA players from a FO perspective and a players' perspective, plus he's a young, smart, easygoing guy with a track record of handling difficult personalities in college. Seriously doubt the noted GSW egos would pose a relevant issue.

Brad Stevens is a good NBA coach. The jury isn't still out. The "issue" with the transition is that most of the college coaches who made it just didn't have a great NBA skillset.
05-15-2014 , 03:14 PM
How many successful college-to-NBA-sans-NBA-assistant-experience coaches have their been? vs. the number that have not been successful? Admittedly I'm just going off memory.
