I remember when Hollinger first burst onto the scene, he published an article about pure passer rating which was the worst thing I've ever seen. I forget the exact formula, but I recall the denominator being possessions used. But since this so heavily favored non-scorers, he arbitrarily regressed below usage rates to the league average. So consequently, we ended up with half of the players being analyzed with a 100% arbitrary denominator, and it still resulted with Brevin Knight + Rick Brunson as the GOAT passing PG's. It was a pretty embarrassing effort.
In all fairness, why can't Brevin Knight be considered the GOAT passer? Think about it like this:
-The man was very short
-He couldn't shoot/score
-Defensively he was a liability
-Obv rebounding wasn't his forte
so... He made it into the league. And he hung around a LONG time. Offenses tended to perform well when he was in the game. You know what? Maybe the little midget was actually a pretty good passer.
Anyway I'm not getting sucked into this type of argument, but yeah, some ESPN content is really weak. We all know this. etc.
