Timmay,

Anytime someone calls something an immortal lock, always bet the other side.

MMMmmm. this is an excellent question. I think in the nba winning is of great importance when it comes to winning an mvp. I think it would be tough for anybody on boston to get it because they are really really balanced.

But I do think if either the magic or lakers win like 63+ games that A. Dwight Howard could def. win. He will lead or be among leaders in rebounds and blocks. He'll most like win Defensive MVP again and if he develops some post moves at all, who can say how many points he might score.

B. The Black Mamba if the lakers roll as expected. Reasons are obvious.

Guess maybe Duncan could sneak in their too, but I doubt it.

Denver is playing the 2nd night of a back to back, which is historically worth a point or two(kbfc may be able to provide more exact data on this). Not only that, but they had a rather tough game against Utah last night and they had to travel in between games(home-home b2bs are obviously much easier).

Also, last year Portland beat Denver 104-76 and 101-92 in the two games played at Portland.

FWIW I laid off this game...just trying to play devil's advocate a bit.

You're starting a team and don't yet know what type of players you'll have on your team. Which coach do you choose and why:

Pop
Sloan
Phil

i dont see too many people voting for kobe over lebron unless their teams differ by about 15 games. dwight is probably the best mvp option outside of 'nook(does this work?). other players like kobe, duncan, wade, and kg have an outside shot, but i doubt it.

How people accept the Ewing Theory is beyond me. Its so stupid, its basically just a combination of selection bias and variance.

You already have them listed in order.

Pop is a lock because he builds great teams and is awesome at identifying talent.

Sloan is like a slightly worse version of Pop

Phil would be last, but its not because he's a bad coach (far from it), just that I think he's better if he knows the players he's getting up front. He needs the right players for his system.

Ya I hear ya. I just think if you look historically that winning games is rewarded the most. So if the Lakers win the west and the cavs finish third in the east, that Kobe Bean would get a lot o votes.

Yeah, I'd probably go with Dwight if the Magic have win 5+ more games than Cleveland and Dwight puts up his normal numbers all year. Kobe could get it too due to the media's love of him, but he shouldn't.

i wouldnt take phil because he is prob done in the next year or two. i think i probably take sloan over pop just because he has had less talent on his teams the last 10 or so years but still had playoff contenders. they are both class acts, but i love how the jazz have ran their offense under sloan.

also, pop's teams are usually boring which would make me less money.

im splitting hairs here because pop/sloan are really close imo

If the Magic end the season with a better record than the Cavs, I think HGH gets the MVP.

I'd say lets stick with chinook salmon until it catches on a bit more, then we can start shortening or changing it.
