Raptors shot like ass but they rebounded very well and defended decently without fouling.
Amir Johnson is a bad mother****er.
Bosh and Bargnani both sucked dicks.
DeRozan is the real deal.

I don't have time to put something like this together, but I'd guess it would be more interesting to look for an equilibrium of (USG+TS), not TS on its own.

I just read the Rockets preview essay .pdf. Gotta say, I think it's a pretty big fail. All Star Trevor Ariza? Funny. Don't they realize that he's gonna have to go through David West for that?

Reading the basketball prospectus stuff its generally pretty good but there is a lot of stuff they get wrong. In general their defensive ratings for players are pretty bad. I could be wrong but I have a few guesses why.
1. They don't adequately account for strength of opponent being guarded.
2. Who is being covered isn't always so clear often there are switches, help defense etc and its very difficult to quantify that.

Ultimately I think its just very difficult to evaluate individual defensive ability without actually watching the game and knowing what to look for which leads to their metrics being very flawed. However simply because they are attempting to provide some sort of real analysis makes it much better than most stuff I read on the NBA.

Bobbo,
Brook Lopez is a beast. He's very good, I honestly think the only centres I would take over him are Dwight and Pau.

edit: Does Duncan count as a center?

I love BP.com as much as the next hardcore fan, but LOLOL @ this book excerpt

Quote:
In L.A., Ariza was utilized as a perimeter stopper,
a role which he filled quite well. On offense, he was
used primarily as a spot-up shooter. Over a quarter of
Ariza’s shot attempts came from behind the arc last
season, a huge jump over his established tendencies.
He hit just under 32 percent on treys, so despite hot
shooting in the playoffs, clearly the Lakers were not
getting the most out of his talent. In Houston, Ariza
can still work on that outside shot, but he will have
much more freedom to attack the basket, create offense
for himself and teammates and draw fouls.
Given the Rockets’ need for scoring and likely style
of play, Ariza should emerge as an All-Star candidate
this season.

If Trevor Ariza is an All-Star in the West at a position where CARMELO ANTHONY wasn't last year, I quit basketball

Oh, I didn't know Brook Lopez was canadian. Eagles, you really think Brook Lopez is only the 3rd best centre? (Or, Canadian Center) I think he's better than both Samuel Dalembert AND Jamaal Magloire - in fact, it's plausible Brook Lopez is the best centre in the league ATM.

Thats obviously not going to happen now. As it is, that starting PG position is still wide open, but even if Blake starts, Miller could easily play more minutes per game. He seriously needs to look at the numbers from last years team, a guy like Batum started, but he didn't play starters minutes. Nate mixes it up and he is big on playing units that match up well. Miller needs to quite being a moody bitch and work his ass off. I mean, seriously, you just signed a new contract and you show up to a 54 win team and you aren't at your ideal weight? WTF is that?

i'm about a quarter through Alex's link, and it's pretty good so far. Before I continue, it got me thinking about how it's possible this applies to Durantula.

unlikely that miller would have signed there if he thought he would have to compete for the starting job imo

thanks for linking this, it was a good read. Maybe this is why bookmakers aren't as down on Houston as the rest of us are (Assani!).

maybe, but I still think he needs to look at this as a minutes per game approach as opposed to a "am I starting or not" approach. Blake played 31 MPG last year as the starting PG, which was third behind the 37MPG for LMA and Roy. Even Sergio played 15 MPG. I wouldn't be surprised to see the two of them play around 25-28 MPG's, which in all honesty is probably better for Miller anyway.
