I think you're right - you don't mean selection bias though, you're talking about ad hoc conclusions, or whatever the logic term is. basically, when you already have arrived at your conclusion and just gathering the data to support it.

essentially, if they DIDNT go over the screens, they'd get killed. BUT, even still, what that data suggests is that teams should *probably* go under more screens. In pickup I go under almost every screen, only time I dont is when I'm playing a VERY good shooter.

Recap of the game today:
-We only had 5 players
-One of whom was Shane
-The other team only had ~1 sub so its not like they had a huge advantage resting-wise
-We played 1s and 2s which is really lame
-1st half went great, I hit a 3, fastbreak layup, and 3 assists as we climbed to a 14-9 lead. I ran the offense and Shane beasted on the boards.
-2nd half they switched defensive assignments and 2 of our guys (Shane, me, and this kid Pete are good, but the other 2 kids on our team are not so good) kept getting lost on defense... They had 2 quality shooters (when OPEN) who both had super slow releases and yet our kids couldnt stay on top of them. They came back and won like 32-25. Ugh.
-We shouldn't have lost. One of the kids on the other team had long fingernails (pet peeve of mine while playing bball) and slashed me across the finger to open the 2nd half; bled all over my shirt for 20 minutes. (Pretty deep cut, this is why it annoys me when people have long fingernails - similar to watches/jewelry, TAKE THAT OFF PEOPLE)
-I did have a sweet drive going left into traffic where I spun in a layup
-2nd half the offense sputtered because Justin, their best player and safe to say best player on the court (I've played with him quite a lot) switched from me to Shane and despite giving up ~60 lbs and ~3 inches did a spectacular job of ball denial. He forced a **** TON of TOs and they led to a bunch of fastbreak layups. Given we were tired our defense suffered from running back. Also, our 2 bad kids were getting open looks but not running to the basket and air balled about 7 shots.
-Pete should've gotten more shots. We had a few PnRs where we just miscommunicated or I threw a lead pass that would sail out of his hands - we should've gone to this more often, but it ended up being like 1-3 with 3 TOVs when we went to it.
-I actually have no idea of my final line, but I was pretty happy with how I played. I had to guard Justin though and he burned me several times, but Shane had a sick weak side block where Justin JUST got past me going right, I moved my feet but not quick enough, and he tried to lay it in soft, but Shane smacked it to the ropes.
I sure ****ing hope you're joking with regards to bolded. PICK UP IS PLAYED WITH 1's AND 2's :|

Jesus christ it tilts the **** out of me when I play pick up and morons are all like "1's only"-- lOL STFU, that's idiocy. Some of my friends were playing like a few months ago, and after getting up 6-2 on some really good regulars at the tulane gym, the regs were like "LOL its only 3-2 there's no 2's!" ****ing idiots, unfortunately my friends did not stand up for themselves-- but that sorta **** obvioulsy has to be called before the game starts.

I would seriously have refused to continue the game and left the court if someone tried to pull that crap on me.

Yeah that wouldn't have flied. I would have insisted upon the score being 6-2 first, but some of the regulars are complete dickheads and think they are the greatest basketball players in the world and demand respect-- there's no way they'd give in so I'd prob just leave after telling them how ****ing stupid they are.

And ah didn't realize yo uwere talking about a league game. I'm going to get my ass kicked , sigh, it's ok though.

BTW we'll go to this place when you come-- Noze can come too if he wants obv, but he's probably been here plenty-- http://portofcallnola.com/

Greatest hamburger you'll ever eat.

Also the fact that you're in a league, and the league chooses to play 1's only, makes zero sense. If you're in a league, that implies that people are better at basketball than normal right? Shouldn't you want to play by the ....oh I dunno, normal rules? 2's/3's or 1's/2's!?

you would think so. I think it was expert gamesmanship on their part actually - they took a bunch of 3s. We did not.

Arenas Calls Out Butler
More Wizards News

Nov 24, 2009 8:06 AM EST

Things have gone from bad to worse in Washington after Gilbert Arenas pointed the finger at Caron Butler for the team's struggles.

Arenas said on Saturday that many of the team's players have "hidden agendas."

The star guard continued his critical comments on Monday, singling out Butler.

"For the most part, we all get along," Arenas said. "There are, what, 15 players on the team? Fourteen do. ... At the end of the day, if 15 players don't want to go and it's only 14, you've seen 'Remember the Titans.' It's the same thing. We've just got to play."

When asked who was responsible for ending the in-fighting, Arenas said, "Me and Antawn [Jamison]. That's our jobs [as captains]."

He conveniently left Butler, the third co-captain, out.

Butler wasn't as direct as Arenas and said that a few wins might cure everything in Washington.

"A lot of things get magnified when you're losing. Everybody wants to be successful, but you've got to stay in the team concept and just focus on playing winning basketball," Butler said. "Honestly, I have never had a problem with nobody on the team. It's frustrating when you're losing games, but when you're frustrated, do you point the finger? Do you blame other people? Or do you try to get better and see 'What can I do?' That's where maturity comes in."

The two reportedly spoke on Monday night and resolved their issues.
So the guy that's shooting < 40% from the field yet is chucking with no regard for human life (usage over 30%) is call out their most dependable player the last 4 years?

I realize Butler has also started slow but Gilbert should worry about his own game first and STFU

Banks expiring + Antoine Wrights expiring + Patrick O'Bryant for Butler get'r done Colangelo!

Frankly, Caron Butler is most responsible for the Wizards' woes. Here is what we know:
-He has logged a near-team high 410 minutes, all the while shooting 48.6 TS. Ouch!
-He has a 5.7% assist rate. This is lower then every person on the team seeing somewhat regular minutes aside from Antawn Jamison
-His defense has noticeably slipped, as his box score stats and DRtg are pretty bad for a "stopper"
-Has offered relatively nothing else positively.

I mean this dude has generated 1/10th a winshare 1/8th of the way through the season. He's on pace for less than 1 total WS!

Gilbert hasn't really been much better, but:
-He has a slightly higher (yet still awful) TS
-His AST% is at least in line with "#1 option" territory
-He's atleast on pace to produce more than 1 WNS, lol
-Is the guy coming back from an injury, so more leeway is expected

Frankly, I think the Wizards are poorly constructed. Also, the coaching is prettttttty bad right now, bc Flip seems to be running an offense where everyone just jacks a terrible 2pt jumpshot.

The sickest thing is Haywood is playing well, and given age/bouncing back from injury I don't think this was expected.

Edit: Obligatory Chilltown APM-call out, APM sees DeShawn Stevenson getting major minutes (205 so far?) as a major travesty. He's almost certainly hurting the team, and almost certainly doing so at a really negative clip. The only positive player "likely" is Blatche.

Don't need APM to see that Stevenson is a travesty to the game of basketball. I'm glad it agrees though.

The Memphis Grizzlies had planned to give out 3,000 Allen Iverson promotional jerseys on December 4, however that was scrapped after he agreed to a buyout. The team instead will give out a Marc Gasol jersey T-shirt.

According to The Commercial-Appeal, the Grizzlies plan to ship Iverson's jerseys to Tanzania, which is the birthplace of rookie center Hasheem Thabeet.

"We are thrilled to partner with Hasheem Thabeet and the NBA's international program Basketball Without Borders," president of business operations Greg Campbell said before adding, "This also gives us the opportunity to recognize Marc Gasol for his inspiring start to the season."

For you Victor:

Quote:
Good to see young (and athletic) Hickson get an extended shot and seize the opportunity. Not so good, from the Cavs' perspective, to hear LeBron publicly lament the fact that Charlotte beat Cleveland to Stephen Jackson.

Wow, WW is a terrible writer.

This stuff can be so simple and he turned it into an unreadable mess. Granted this should be expected from an academic, but this guy should be smart enough to know he needs a ghostwriter/editor.

The part about Belichek was good. The fact that he still thinks Durant was a net negative is lol-worthy, but of course as an APM follower you would agree.
