i gtg but i think you are pretty wrong about wallace. his splits were significantly better at the 4 even if he did play more sf min (which i'm not sure is true)

Iggy is a great signing @ 12 million per.

Here's the thing with Iggy--what separates him from other wing defenders is that he's a net neutral on offense, most likely due to his ability to create for others. Most of the elite wing defenders give a lot back on the other end whereas Iggy does not, and that's what separates him from guys like Tony Allen and Avery Bradley.

He has the impact of a defensive big man on that end of the court, except he's a guard. On offense he has no impact.

Just look at Philly's #s after he was traded, and Denver's after he arrived. With Iggy in the lineup they were a top 6 defense, bottom 5 without.

He's that important to a team, and I don't see that falling off a ciff because he doesn't do it with athleticism as much as the others. But I do agree with TuT that GSW might not be much better because of losing two big time contributors.

You keep talking like this and Kaep's tearing his ACL in a preseason game.

On a similar note, Klay will no longer have to guard the best perimeter player, which should free up more energy for offense.

There are ~4000 minutes at SF over an 82 game season, I'm not at all worried about Barnes losing time.
This could be another factor that helps stave off Iggy's decline.

He doesn't have to play 35 mpg. He can play 30 (or less) with Barnes playing the rest (and maybe a few at the 4).

Also Iggy is going to be able to "rest" relatively on O, which is going to help preserve him also.

I never once said that he wasn't better at PF. I'm saying that he was better at SF than Iggy is and specifically a better defender.

Show your work on him being a net neutral on offense. He's a massive negative. His "creation for others" consists of hugely bad turnover numbers, pathetic shooting, and even more pathetic ft shooting. He'd have to be the best passer of all-time to be considered neutral on offense.

30 mpg (or less) doesn't justify the huge contract then.

Getting him to guard #1 wangs in the playoffs in the 4th might tho.

We've had this conversation. It just depends on how you weight the following: his conventional offensive metrics (not great), his shot creation ability (of varying value subject to eyetest), RAPM (iirc, has Iggy as neutral/slight positive on offense.)

I doubt it, especially considering Barnes displayed good defense last season as a rookie and Iggy's offense will mostly cancel out any positive defensive impact in the playoffs. It's a bad contract for any team imo, but it's especially bad for GSW who is a halfcourt team and has two very promising young wings.

Harkless is the truth. I this young Orlando team

i think the combination of conventional metrics being awful+eye test being awful+his teams never amounting to anything easily outweighs him being a slight positive in lolrapm, which is especially bad at dealing in the middle

there's really nothing other than rapm to suggest he's not bad on offense

Think he's a pretty clear fave to be < neutral from ages 30-33. He has been in decline offensively for a few years now, and I think you have to be a bit worried about him performing as poorly as he did in GK's offense last year which should have gotten him a few extra transition buckets in the reg season to pad his stats.

It's easy to point out that he showed up for the playoffs, but that was only bc he godmoded 3's at 48.3% and it was pretty much the only good playoff series of his life. Career he has a 15.0 PER 102 ortg in the playoffs vs 16.9 109 in the regular season, and that's in spite of him shooting much better from 3 in the playoffs (36.4 vs 32.9).

I'd really like to short GSW winning a playoff series and missing the playoffs in two separate bets at the right prices.

I think the point is this:

Tony Allen gets burn in the playoffs and is useful. Iggy is much less negative than he, ergo, Iggy can be pretty damn useful on a team with Steph/Klay/HB/Bogut

Yeah, to be clear, I don't have a strong stance one way or the other on his specific offensive value. Just that that was the reason you'd be getting.

i agree w/ this which is why i don't hate the iggy signing as much as tut does. but nobody would be splooging over TA gettin paid 4/48 (or say 4/36 to account for lower skill level)

Tony Allen isn't that much worse than Iggy, and maybe not worse at all give that he doesn't disrupt the offense by turning it over a bunch. Regardless, Allen didn't get near the contract Iggy got and I also wouldn't be surprise if Allen starts cancering it up in a year or two.

I don't think the Iggy signing is grate either. Gotta spend money to make money or something.

We're in agreement.
07-08-2013 , 12:36 PM
I'll bet Warriors to miss the playoffs at +325 and I'll bet under 0.5 playoff series wins at -175.

For those who like the Iggy signing and don't want to bet on it, I'd be curious to know what % you think he helped their ability to win a playoff series.
