"cognitive dissonance" such smart much wow

I'm not defending Boston or Chicago's climates. They're awful. Boston's vicious winter this year is why moving to NJ was a five minute sell to my girlfriend.

By culture I'm including the people. People in hostile climates have both a kindness and an edge. I prefer those people.

People giving way too many props for Miami ITT

Expensive, sprawling, awful traffic/transportation, people look at you weird if you try to speak English, etc. I don't even mind Spanish/Latino people but the attitude of the transplants in Miami area is really unbearable.(Think JLO in that South Park episode) Miami Beach is cool but drinks at even a beach bar are like >$20 each and people will look at you weird if you don't have a $100k car(or 20k+ motorcycle!)

I'm a pretty big supporter of Playa del Carmen Mexico. Very cheap, great party scene/beach town, small and compact and can walk everywhere, tons of euros, canadian/american transplants with the BONUS of every semester there's a new influx of 100 or so Norwegian girls doing a study abroad program.

I'm staunchly on team LOLAmerica. America sucks at everything except from a consumer perspective(though it's breaking everyone in doing so). Everything is stupid expensive, everyone is stupid stupid and it keeps getting worse and worse.

The point is that climate advantages = important

Culture advantages = not important. I took improv classes in chicago and went to a few shows. It wasnt bad, but let me tell you: it doesnt not atone for the weather. Lol at suggesting it might

Thayer: im 50/50 to move to playa. Down to that and puerto vallarta as my 2 choices, just gotta visit both and then i'll decide

Im definitely on the lolamerica wagon, i suspect my life is going to be way better in mexico
07-27-2014 , 01:23 PM
Sight unseen take the one not on the Caribbean imo.

At first I was offended that you missed the joke but that's what even a single improv class does to a sense of humor.

There is no cure.

While America does suck pretty hard, to be fair I was posting that from our porch over a pond in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Can see some alligators. Saw some deer last night. Smoked some POT. Pretty great spot

i like hilton head. too many OLDS to live there ime but great place for a vacation.

Expensive to go out at tourist traps, but if you know where to go it's not that expensive

Also the housing is insanely cheap!

Weather discussion when you live in Vegas is pretty insane.

Granted, only other place I've lived besides Vegas was Denver but the weather here is so much better.

(I do realize the 2/3rds of the year comment doesn't apply to Denver as its sunny and nice basically every single day, but Vegas weather is pretty awful).

Hey clark,

it's been raining all morning/afternoon here in boston.

I'm not really all that pro Canada at all, just super pro Toronto

Bar scene is pretty great, beach scene is incredible. It's not overcrowded anywhere and reasonably priced. There are great restaurants with basically no waits. Weather crushes year around. All of this is within basically a 20 mile radius. Incredible place to vacation and/or live imo

You guys are still kind of wrong about that. The days per year it rains in Seattle is significantly higher. It just rains buckets more in Boston.
07-27-2014 , 03:05 PM
Rather rain buckets then clear up then just months of constant drizzle

Minnesota winters are kind of awesome. It's cold enough that the snow stays snow and ice stays frozen so you can do outdoor things. You can play hockey/boot hockey in local parks with friends or in leagues. You can cross-country ski in state parks, ski ski at ski resorts, snowmobile across open fields, drive your car onto frozen lakes and ice fish and drink. Lots to do. And the pure fallen snow outside of cities has considerable aesthetic appeal. Also, the amount of time you are involuntarily in the cold is really limited to from your car to the door of wherever you're going (heated house -> heated garage -> warm car -> park and walk to -> heated destination). And once you get downtown all the buildings are connected by skyways so you never need to go back outside again.

The winter I spent in Boston was ~800x worse. First of all, it's always like 30-35 degrees so the snow, rather than staying snow, turns to this dirty slushy **** that ruins shoes and dress pants (I had to actually wear snowboots to work and change into dress shoes there like a 4th grader or something). And secondly, you're forced to trudge through that **** to get everywhere because having a car was basically impossible (2 blocks through slush to T ->ride T -> 4 blocks through slush to work./..9 blocks through slush to grocery store -> buy groceries -> 9 blocks back home carrying groceries through slush)

Yeah Vegas summer is almost as bad as a cold climate winter in terms of basically having to hide indoors at all times.

Lol'd irl. Especially the part about the "ski resorts". Maybe there are places that are even worse but MN winters ****ing suck.

puerto vallarta is definitely nice but id rather live in cabo. fishing is cheaper, the weather isnt as humid and the city overall was nicer as well.
07-27-2014 , 04:20 PM
the weather isn't as humid because it's pretty much in the desert. i went to cabo on vacation with my family and it seemed alright, but PV and PDC sound better for full time living.
07-27-2014 , 04:32 PM
yeah, that's why i liked cabo more though. vallarta at times when we were down there was pretty sweltering for heat whereas cabo was always nice. i liked cabo as a city more than vallarta as well. with that being said we did go during the dry season for PV so we could have easily just caught it at its nastiest weather.

Keeping Boston drivers out of their cars as much as possible is actually a strong point in the city's favor.
07-27-2014 , 05:16 PM
Even though subjectively Murca is probably my favourite place I've lived, from almost any objective standard Australia and Canada are significantly better places to live.

More money, less crime, better infrastructure/better govt support, less poverty

In terms of US cities my favourite has probably been Denver, though I'm pretty sure San Diego would be up there as I absolutely loved So Cal weather but LA was too sprawly.

San Fran had some good things, NY was decent (but overrated imo unless you are a making 7 figures), Philly was less bad than I thought (cheap, good restaurants/bars/culture, all 4 sports leagues + soccer, seemed way less poverty filled/dangerous than say San Fran which goes against everything I've heard).

Denver really just is awesome - Very good weather, all 4 sports teams, clean city without much crime/poverty it seems, hot girls
07-27-2014 , 08:58 PM
I have Vegas, San Diego, Denver, Los Angeles, and San Franciso as the tier 1 cities in the US. LOL East Coast.
