Phoenix may accept that, but maybe the Knicks are looking for more, such as the ability to dump Noah's contract. If Jackson was firm that whoever gets KP also has to take Noah, how does that change things?

Right now Staps is just a role player too. The appeal is that he is a 22 y/o role player and if he progresses well enough then he can become a star.

But Crowder is about just as valuable as Staps in the short term, and he is barely paid more and the C's have him for 3 years. He is an ultrasick valuetown asset and is super important if they want to try to add max guys like Butler/Hayward and win now. I just would not be in a rush to move him and would be trying to convince the Knicks to take lol Jaylen instead who is paid almost as much and is way worse.

i cannot stand by this take. KP is a franchise player. he is getting snuffed by the triangle, the worst defensive coach of all time (rambis), and what figures to be the most toxic team in the league.

passing on KP for #3 + crowder is unfathomable.

edit - crowder as a 3 year value contract pales in comparison to having potentially a top 5 player in the league a few years from now, which is insanely valuable since that lines up with CLE/GSW finally not winning titles.

Breaking News: I have finalized my lock correct top 10 in terms of who will actually be the best players in the NBA

1. LONZO

massive gap

2. Fultz
3. Fox
4. Tatum
5. Isaac
6. Jackson
7. Smith
8. Zach
9. Markkanen
10. FRANK

It's time for the Fultz>Lonzo nonsense to stop. Lonzo is a generational superstar imo. His ceiling is best offensive player of all time and breaks the game of basketball itself. Fultz could be like dame/wall tier and that's great if he gets there but that's about it.

As a Celtics fan, here are deals I'd approve of to bring in Staps:

-#3 + 2018 Lakers 1st + Smart
-#3 + Jaylen
-#3 + Crowder

Love Staps, but would be nervous from a value-perspective offering above and beyond.

If this was the case where everyone believed KP was a franchise player the entire league would be likely trying to send assets for the guy. While I think KP is good, for some reason the league doesn't share your opinion. Odds of KP being a top 5 player are low IMO.

He's so far behind young guys like Giannis, KAT, kawhi, Davis and you have guys like the Philly 3 who could join in the top five. I have hard time believing he'll pass guys like jokic, gobert as well. Then you have the slightly older guys who aren't going anywhere anytime soon like Durant, curry, harden, rwb.

He could be behind all those guys and still be a franchise player. There are 30 franchises

The Knicks would keep the 8th pick. So it would be KP for Bledsoe, Chriss, Jackson/Tatum and like Markannen. I think that's a pretty decent young core for the Knicks to work with.

when KP hits his prime, all those current guys you listed are gonna be 35ish. I think KP is better than KAT and AD six years from now, but that's just a hot take of mine that isn't gonna be backed by any real logic beyond KAT is still meh at D and AD is always hurt. I agree that Greek Freak and Kawhi are prob the alpha dogs in 7 years, but I'd still have KP near top 5 on the 2024 futures power rankings.

i don't want to drag on with the KP hot takes, I just think it's insane to value him as lower than the #3 pick in this draft plus a celtics role player on a good contract.

give brad stevens someone like KP, good god. he'd be so much better than he is now.

I get the whole A Davis is hurt b/c he misses 10-20 games a year; but last year he only missed 7 and the most games he's missed is 21. So while he does seem to always get hurt, he doesn't miss serious time or at least never has.

Also the Crowder vs. Jalen point would be moot if NYK had a real GM, nobody is going to pass up on all the potential goodness of Jaylen for Crowder when rebuilding and it makes sense for both teams to swap Jaylen rather than Crowder.. But ofc it's Phil who is mashing buttons so for all we know he'd demand Jae.

Uhh, BPM sets -2 as roughly replacement level and VORP translates that. VORP is literally Value Over Replacement Player, so by definition, 0 is replacement level.

Edit: Looks like someone already explained it.

This is the definition of it on B-Ref.com

Quote:
Value over Replacement Player
A box score estimate of the points per 100 TEAM possessions that a player contributed above a replacement-level (-2.0) player, translated to an average team and prorated to an 82-game season
.

I never mentions looking at BPM to determine the stat. It should be more explanatory.

Suns might be wavering on Chriss. Trying to ship Bender + take back Noah or something in lieu of parting with Chriss.

Definitely think they'd the trade as described, but McD prob trying to squeeze value outta Phil.
