i'd hope everyone does

mkg and his elbow hitch has zero chance to play meaningful clutch playoff minutes

mkg fires up a shot about as quick as a 91 year old takes to pee:

Gordon is similar, but with a slightly higher defensive upside but a solidly lower offensive median. Even so, he can be awful on that end and a solid rotation player, and if he learns to shoot (don't know what the probability of this is) he becomes a max-type player.
yup, this was exactly what i was thinking when i made the comment. having a super polarized defensive range like smart/gordon or randle means so so much.

Tennis is not basketball obviously, but players who form that kind of muscle memory have an extremely impossible time unlearning things like that. Serving in tennis can turn into a hitched thing and I swear for the player with the hitch the hitch feels and behaves like a reflex, not a volitional action. Doesn't matter if you focus 100% on not doing it.

Lol at the notion that a team can't draft a player because they already have Okynyk.

Jusuf's father is 7' 4" and 400+ lbs. This alone makes him worthy of the 9th selection.

Nik Stauskas, SF

After Michigan beat Ohio State in the big 10 tourney, Nik's girlfriend posted this picture on instagram which I think is pretty awesome. Given that she's also obv super hot, it's safe to say that excellent taste in women is yet another admirable quality for NikDreamy.

This is a tough slot for Philly bc all of the Big 8 (everybody taken other than Randle) are off the board and BPA becomes murky now. I think IRL this may be a good slot for Philly to trade down unless they don't get Biid and Nurkic is available but neither of those things happened here and I can't trade.

So I'm going with Stauskas. On one hand I'm kinda nervous to take him at #10 because his role in the offense wasn't that big for somebody who is guaranteed to be bad on defense. Stat models don't love him, largely bc of his bad steal rate which bodes poorly for his defense (but not his offense IMO, and steals historically correlate with offense. he has the handles to translate his O in spite of tool deficiencies and his offensive instincts are def good).

The main question I have is why didn't he take more 3's and why wasn't his usage higher? Feels like he could have been stretched out quite a bit because his trigger seems quick enough, he has an elite handle, he seems to be able to shoot off the dribble, and he's pretty athletic for a college wing. Given that he's also high IQ and has a sick work ethic I'm willing to err on the side of eye test over stats here, because he was hyperefficient in his role and he can be a really good offensive player as a medium usage pro.

So basically this puts him on the short list of maybe BPA's where there's an argument for a handful of guys but none of them super stand out. Among the possible choices, Stauskas is BY FAR the best fit for Philly. I don't really like drafting for fit with a lotto pick but it seems like a fair tiebreaker since everybody is fairly close and MCW/Thad/Nerl/Biid is a sick core that doesn't require a ton of additional talent to contend in 3-5 years. Everybody there is defensive minded so it's ideal for hiding Stauskas's D, and he provides elite shooting and secondary ball handling to help the offense become decent.

And Stauskas does have some sneaky upside to be an ultra sick PnR ballhandler and him + Biid might become a legendary PnR duo. So I don't want to act like this pick has a super low cap upside wise.

Really curious to see how Hinkie approaches this pick IRL bc there's no obv answer to me.

here's the thing NURK is a 19yo banger (6'11.5" 280) who puts up 35per against adriatic league comp which is 90% roided up pek/antic clones. guy is gonna be really good offensive nba player at the very least imo, and has a super high ceiling if his quick hands, great mobility, and great size translate into solid d. he's a solid shooter, great offensive rebounder, good postup guy, good roll guy. his major wart is he fouls too much and has poor conditioning like every big man prospect ever so who cares

I suppose Stauskas may have not done as much bc he wasn't accustomed to doing everything on O. His progression from freshman to sophomore is pretty amazing. Per 40 stats:

Season*_2PA2P%3PA3P%FTAASTTOVPTS
2012-133.950.0%6.144.0%2.91.71.514.5
2013-145.850.0%6.544.2%6.43.72.119.7

He increased his volume from everywhere w/o hurting percentages, spiked his FT rate through the roof, more than double his assist rate, yet his turnover rate barely increased. Wonder how good he'd become if he stayed until his senior year.

I'm waiting to hear why we shouldn't be jizzing ourselves over Nurkic's stats. They are ultra sick and even though he can't jump he can move his feet really well and he has good stocks. If he posted his Adriatic stats at Kentucky we'd want to discuss him as a top 3 pick, only the Adriatic league is > SEC in terms of difficulty.

The Denver Nuggets roster going into next season:

PG - Lawson
PG - Nate Robinson
SG - Randy Foye
SG - Evan Fournier
SF - Gallo
SF - Wilson Chandler
PF - Kenneth Faried
PF - Darrell Arthur
C/PF - JJ Hickson
C - MOZGOV
C - Javale McGee

With the exception of SG, there really isn't anyone on the board who represents the opportunity for a significant upgrade over the guys already on the roster. Conventional wisdom would say there are two ways to go here, draft the best shooting guard or draft the player with the highest ceiling.

But I say screw that, Denver needs to try and right the ship right now.

Denver selects:

Spoiler:

Spoiler:
Tyler Ennis - PG - Syracuse

Yes they already have Ty Lawson, but backup point guard is very important position in the NBA. Nate Robinson is coming off an ACL injury and will be a free agent or gone (if he opts out, lol to that).

I feel like Tyler is fairly close to BPA at this point, but I also think he fits with Denver because of the possibility of a 2PG back court pairing with Ty Lawson. Coach Brian Shaw has been known to do this with Ty/Brooks and Ty/Nate for stretches, and I this pairing would be at least as successful because Ennis is MUCH longer than those two.

Denver always played well with Ty/Dre and even Ty/FatRayFelts, it's in their DNA to play 2 PG lineups regardless of whether or not they can shoot... And Tyler seems ok in that department on a small sample. As far as defense is concerned, maybe Denver will play some zone or some ****.
