Asik wil be gone next year (possibly sooner as well), who knows if this kid will be ready to step in but there's not a lot of holes on the roster so might as well gamble on a developmental big.

According to DX mobility is a strength and most of his negatives can prbly be chalked up to his youthful inexperience. Always better to harness willingness than try to goad it out of someone.

Looks like a young Mozgov, he always seemed a little out of control when he was with the Knicks and younger too.

Round 2 - Pick #43 Overall

Spoiler:
PF - Khem Birch (UNLV)

Happy to get Birch here, who measured out fairly well at the combine after some worried he might be a bit undersized. (6'9.25 with 8'11" reach)

Birch had a nice year at UNLV (#17 in VJL EWP, 26.3 PER)

Birch is productive on both ends. He had a 57 TS%, drawing 5.5 fouls per 40 and shooting 70% from the stripe. Impressive for a big. On the boards he was particularly impressive, where his 13.9 OR% was near the top of all college players.

On defense he did it too, sporting a 10.9% BLK rate, also again tops of all college players.

His 2014 stats compare a lot to Taj Gibson, a player comp I love for Birch.

I think Birch is a bit hamstrung by the early start to his college career after being a top high school recruit then transferring from Pitt to UNLV. But in mid 2nd round, I'm happy to get a 21 year old former top high school recruit who just had one of the better seasons of anyone in this draft

i think birch is pretty good value here

he's a guy that rates really well statistically (VJL has him as the 17th best NCAA player in the draft) but i don't fully trust that since he's basically a center in a PF body which casts doubt on his ability to translate.

even though he measured well for a PF he only weighed 209 so i think you're hoping that he builds on his 69.3% FT to become something away from the paint. but he only shot 20/75 away from the hoop and isn't a great passer so meh.

he may be a guy that needs to be paired with a really skilled 5 like jokic who provides a big body to match up with the bigger 5's and also enables birch to play center on offense. either way doesn't seem like he can be a bad flier halfway thru rd 2

I would be surprised if Lakers dont trade the pick. I see them drafting "the next Kobe" which imo could be a guy like Exum but doubt he falls near 7.

I could see Lakers taking Randle if they do pick just bcus he might be able to contribute right away

randle or smart would start right away and be an upgrade in that position for the lakers

i think those are the choices depending on who c's take

i don't see them trading one of these young pieces away unless your name has love in it

Da WOLVES Pick 44 CJ Wilcox

the much hated on CJ Wilcox has a defined role in the NBA. Hes old (23) -- thats about the only thing people can actually throw on him. Hes a great shooter

Quote:
Wilcox is one of the best shooters in this draft class, as he made 43% of his catch and shoot jumpers on the season, which is second best among prospects in our Top-100 rankings. More than just a one-dimensional shooter with his feet set, he is excellent coming off screens (40%, 6th best in Top-100), and also makes a solid 35% of his pull-up attempts (8th best in Top-100).

While not a crafty ball-handler or an overly prolific shot-creator, Wilcox has improved his ability to operate in transition, pick and roll and isolation situations this season, which was sorely needed on a Washington team that was lacking for talent this season in the very deep Pac-12.
He has a defined role in the NBA. Hes a fine athlete. He has potential to be a Wes Mathews lite.

Draft:
SF KJ Mcdaniels #13
SF/PF Jerami Grant #40
SG CJ Wilcox #44

i'll take javon mccrea, undersized beast pf. basically does everything well expect for being tall. 31 per over his college career, compares pretty well statistically and physically to millsapp

i was gonna take khem birch til cvig sniped him. good pick imo, he seems to have good 3rd big potential

i can see hinkie taking a flier on mccrea with one of his many 2nd rounders. vjl's model rates him a hair below wiggins + randle and hinkie is obv statistically conscious.

da ZARDS Round 2 pick 46

PG/SG Jordan Clarkson

Clarkson is definitely a work in progress, but I like his potential as a 6th man combo guard. He regressed shooting last year but im hopeful he can improve there. Hes a solid athlete with good size. He has good vision and developing PG skills and is a very good scorer.

Quote:
Missouri's Jordan Clarkson was a guy who really aced the eye test while running with the point guards. He measured in at 6'5" with a 38.5-inch max vertical and the third-best agility time in the gym. Clarkson told me he was hearing his draft range was 20-35, and that he plans on selling himself as a point guard. The guy he likes to compare himself to? George Hill, a pretty accurate comparison if you ask me.

I'm taking Slick Nick Johnson

Perfect pairing with MCW as he gives me a 3 + D PG to play off the ball and make use of MCW's ability to guard SG's. Meanwhile MCW makes up for Nick Johnson's inability to run the offense by running the offense.

I like Nick a lot. He's a bit older and not that upsidey, but he was a great defensive player at Arizona and has the tools to continue the trend in the NBA. He doesn't have that much upside on offense but he does have tools and an alright skill set, he could easily be Chalmers-ish. Really the only big knock is that he's a SG in a PG body and that problem is solved by playing him next to a huge PG. I think he has a career as a rotation player.
