but Cornell = Soundgarden/Audioslave to a much larger degree than Vedder = Pearl Jam based on songwriting.

Cornell basically was Temple of the Dog as well, with Vedder being essentially a backup singer (albeit with a very good performance on "Hunger Strike"). i can take if someone wants to say Vedder > Cornell, but to say that he's a "redic amount better" is pretty obvious hyperbole.

and this is coming from someone who is a much bigger fan of PJ (they were probably my favourite band for 5-10 years) than Soundgarden/Audioslave.

Mellon Collie single album should be something like...

1. Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness
2. Tonight, Tonight
3. Zero
4. Bullet With Butterfly Wings
5. F*ck You (An Od To No One)
6. Muzzle
7. Where Boys Fear To Tread
8. Thirty-Three
9. 1979
10. Stumbeline
11. Farewell and Goodnight

Not exactly this but close. There's at least 15 too many songs most of which are terrible imo. Oops I left out Jellybelly keep that one too.

Siamese Dream was awesome* from start to finish though.

*Review based on my impression as a 16yo.

/edit not saying Otis has more value, just that I think they were both good picks when they went (obv. thats why we picked Otis)
As writers there's no comparison. Take a look at Smokey's wikipedia page - (too many undrafteds to list the songs here). Otis wrote some of his own songs - and not most of his big hits. (Not knocking him specifically - it was pretty standard for the time, but he obv accomplished far less than say Sam Cooke in that respect.)

Great performer, ofc, but then imo Smokey is too. Smokey's clear 1st round imo, Otis is merely very good value where he is.

yeah if someone could have forced that control freak to pare that thing down to one disc it might have been one of the best albums of all-time. it's still really good, but there's a bit of unnecessary filler.

(iirc, haven't really listened to it in years now)

Too much hate of Justin Bieber I'm guessing. It's pretty easy never to have heard him sing before afiact either that or I live in a bubble.

I've never heard him either, personally.

Vix,

xyu and bodies are requirements on that album.

Same could be said about the clash's sandinistas. It was a TRIPLE vinyl release (2 CDs). Get rid of some of the dub and other crap and you have a great album. As is it's merely good.

Oh I forgot Bodies. XYU is good too but I left it off for time purposes, heh. I'd have to go listen to them all very closely in order to cut it down to let's say 12 tracks. It would be an incredible album. I'm totally perplexed as to why they put out a 28 song double album with only ~15 good tracks.

sandanista had so much filler (and there really was lots) to try finish their record deal.

Yeah I think I recall reading that in the excellent bio, last gang in town.

Little known fact: morrissey tried out for an early incarnation of the clash (London SS).

Motown is a weird beast tbh. They had a lot of great song writers there and a few of their artists wrote songs as well. For example, Stevie Wonder wrote songs for other people, including co-writing one of Smokey's biggest hits with him.

pretty bizarre deal if you could just turn up and say, "here you are 3 albums - release that lot all at once, plz", but maybe London Calling was enough of a success to allow them to get away with it

I was banking on more synergy between Stevie and Smokey when I made the latter pick.

I could probably use another R&B dude or two before this draft is out.

oh you definitely have some sick synergy with those two. IMO Stevie Wonder at 15 was a ****ing steal because of how sick creatively he is. He instantly makes any R&B guy better.

Here Is No Why, Porcelina of the Vast Oceans, Thru the Eyes of Ruby, and By Starlight are all way too good to leave off. I really love this double CD though and I think they probably had an amount of awesome material that was a bit too big for one CD but not enough for 2. Shame, really. Could have been an all time classic album if they just trimmed it though. Love SP quite a bit.

Too right. tbh I was sitting here going "so true, so true" thinking you meant Little Stevie at age 15

Well, I can't post YouTube links (or much else) from my phone, but I added Jamee's pick to the spreadsheet. Would someone who can read it post a quick link + spoiler of the pick?
