Here's my writeup for my earlier pick.
Round 7- Pick 252
PG-Jameer Nelson
Like most of my team, with this pick I have a player who can score efficiently. Nelson is an excellent three point shooter, shooting over .400 two of the last three years with a TS% of slightly over .560 both of those years. He's not a high volume shooter, only about 2.5 attempts a game from three and low double figures of shots in total, but since everyone else on my team with the exception of Larry Smith is a high volume shooter, I don't think it should be a problem. His 06-07 season is worrisome as his shooting percentage fell precipitously, but given that he rebounded this past season to his 05-06 level, I feel as though he should continue to shoot at a high percentage.
Now, his fit on my team. With Tony Parker, I have a PG already who should play 30 minutes a game give or take, so I'm not expecting anything more than 20 minutes a game at the most from Jameer. His outside shooting is a skill that Tony lacks, so if I need to run a lineup on the floor that emphasizes the deep ball, a back court of Nelson and Hersey Hawkins should sufficiently provide that. He doesn't play great defense and neither he nor Parker is big enough to guard the two, so only one at a time can be on the court at a time. His durability is a concern, but since he will be a backup instead of a starter, I hope he will be able to play close to the full 82 most years. While he might not be the best available, I feel like I need a player of his skill set for my backup PG, and I have a few face melters in mind for the later rounds to shore up my other backup positions. For now:
PG Tony Parker
SG Hersey Hawkins
SF Tracy McGrady
PF Larry Smith
C Bill Cartwright
SF Cedric Ceballos
PG Jameer Nelson
