It isn't a flag unless he touches him before the ball gets there while also not going for the ball. Because he wasn't going for the ball (back turned) he got lucky he hit him as the ball arrived. The rule about not going for the ball only applies if you hit the guy early. If he was a tad later he wouldn't have deflected the ball.

Is there some game theory benefit to ever running a draw on 3rd and long? Like getting the D to pause for a bit before backing up to defend the marker on future 3rd and longs? Because I don't think I've ever seen it work and it seems like a terrible call almost always
