That's what's mixed about it.

Some people say it was a robbery and others are saying it was heart failure.

Either way, I'm listening to Rampage stream on Twitch and he just said a friend just texted him and confirmed that Kimbo died.

I cant imagine someone doing badly after maybe only 1 year more lay off while not facing the champion ..

****. RIP Kimbo.
A gentle giant.

Just checked wikipedia and noticed he pissed hot after his last fight.

I hate saying it but being huge and roids never seems to be a good combination.
The heart can't take it.

As far as the HW division, why is it so bad? Most of the top guys in the division are guys from 5-10 years ago and getting older. There are no up and comers at all really. Is it just that anyone 6'5 250 pounds that can kick ass and is a great athlete just goes into the NFL or tries to? These people aren't going into fighting I guess.

A little surprising how ****ty that division is. I remember when JDS/Cain/Carwin were coming up people thought that HW was going to start becoming the main attraction in UFC.
HW division sucks because the amount of damage the brain can take before shutting off doesn't increase proportionately with body size. Likewise for cardio. If a guy is bigger he can punch harder and knock a guy out faster but also can't have as good of cardio because he has more big muscles to feed.

Sure there are masterfully skilled HWs but too often it just comes down to scramble counter punch POW POW POW did i hit him? Hell even the last HW championship fight was basically like that, Werdum got a little overaggro and got caught backing up. Look how silly some of the recent Mir/Arlovski + other HW fights are.. 90 seconds in they're slugging it out, sometimes the first big punch turns off the lights sometimes it only makes them stagger, etc.

On top of all that it'll be natural for all sports to have the "best" / "most skilled" athletes in a division/position where size is most prevalent. For MMA I'd guess that's between 155-170 or so, for the NBA it's guards, etc. When size is the constricting variable the pool will be much smaller (how many people do you know that couldn't get down to 205? Seriously? You have to be 225+ of almost all muscle to not get down to that size. It's probably like .0001% of the male population in the world)

This works at the opposite end of the spectrum too. How many ppl do you know that could even make the 125 limit? basically pygmies and .00001% of the fighting population. Theres no competition for Demetrious cuz theres no ppl that small...

If you are that small and a legit athlete then that might be something you get into though. If you are 6'6 220-250 then you're probably trying to go 1 of the big 4 sports. In the 70s and 80s the elite boxers made way more $ than the athletes in other sports and even solid boxers did pretty well. Nowadays the team sports just pay so much that not many top tier kids are trying to pickup fighting when they are 14.

When you say 155-170 is that because you think that is probably the weight where skill level and size match perfectly? Guys lower than that really don't have KO power and guys bigger than that aren't usually as skilled as 155-170. Maybe toss 185 in.

205 has some good fighters but that was really the main division in the UFC's heyday and now it is basically just elite guys that probably should be HW's but can make the weight cut.

I say 155-170 because I think the most people are in that weight class that go into fighting. Maybe the real answer is 145 or 135, but as was previously mentioned there's a reason DJ doesn't have competition, and that reason is because a tiny fraction of the population can get to that size.

I'd wager it is basically something hilarious if you actually looked at from the POV of "how many adult male athletes fit into the following categories?"

<1%
3-5%
5-15%
20-40%
20-40%
5-15%
3-5%
<1%

Maybe there are more small guys that wrestle growing up and it's more than that, but **** it's hard to have some muscle and actually get down to 125, you basically have to be <5'8

A lot of the athletic/competitive guys I know who are smaller than average were drawn to wrestling in HS because your size is not a disadvantage, and that is a big feeder sport for MMA.

i love Hendo but for his health he should retire now while he still got some cells in his brain...

Couple last fights he got punish badly even if he won and got into huge war during his career.

ps: i am so glad luke rockhold lost, is attitude is so freakn $h!t...
Some of his friends ( if he got any ?) should tell him this is not how you build cash by being such a dick after you loose...especially after everything he said before went totally the opposite way !
Be at least humble in defeat bud...

I agree about Hendo but did you see his payout!?! 600K to show + 200k win bonus. that's a lot of cash to walk away from... doubt he could hop into a UFC tonight gig or have his own podcast or something of the like. that doesn't really seem to be his skill set. The man's got a family and bills still!

I sat real close to some of rockhold's buddies at 194. they all seemed like d-bags but i couldn't say **** afterwards cuz by boy weidman got whooped up on. Glad he lost as well

You're right, you probably should add 5-10% to the bottom 2-3 weight classes.
