Revs look great, so I guess we'll lose in the MLS Cup Final for the 82nd time

DCU won the league last year and came in tonight with the lead and a game in hand against the Revs. How can they be so bad?

They aren't brilliant in any way, but they have a great coach and goalkeeper, experienced defenders, and can grind out points.

Montreal up 1-0 at the half over Dallas on an iffy PK, but stupid by the defender to bump Romero when he wasn't in that dangerous a position. Would be a huge victory and maybe get the fans invested in this MLS season.

Attendance is a bit better than last week, but still not great. I'd say actual attendance was 10k last week and 13k this week. Can't believe it's still cold as balls in Canada near June. This is why I'm moving to Austin.

Oh and Eric Miller went down, that's the 5th fullback Montreal has had miss time with injury (along with 3 forwards and Justin Mapp). Oyongo's looking pretty good and Castillo for Dallas is one scary mofo.

I'll take the point.

Does anyone (mmbt0ne?) have numbers on the value of 11v9?

It seems to me a draw was probably the expected outcome after the two reds. Not sure though. I haven't seen a match with 30+ minutes of 11v9 since QPR-Chelsea back in 2011.

Unreal run bad, had nguyen and agudelo in fantasy cause dc is lol bad and this would have been 2-0+++ if it was full strength all game.

Of course i go from almost getting a goal + assist combo to davies scoring instead then a red card and my player getting subbed off. Un****ing believable, also miller got subbed off for montreal and won't even qualify for shutout bonus if this holds.

Should have played oyongo and tried harder to fit piatti in instead of praying vicente sanchez would start for colorado, which he never does for some reason even though he's probably one of their best players.

I'ts pretty unbelievable to me how so many of the MLS teams leave some of their obviously clear best players on the bench so often (rowe for revs, gordon for galaxy, sanchez for colorado etc).

60 min of being down 1 man is ~1 goal swing, full game being down a man is 1.45 goal swing. 30 min of 11v9 is probably somewhere between the two. Wouldn't be surprised if DC was very slightly favored to win theoretically at that point.

I think Revs lineup has perfect balance right now. Who would you want Rowe to start instead of?

Inclined to say teal, but teal offers a lot in the way of defensive workrate.

Teal offers by far the most defensively of any of our attacking players. He also plays as a true right winger, whereas players like Rowe and Agudelo tend to drift centrally. It gives us the necessary width on the pitch. Rowe is better for most teams, but given that we have Nguyen and Agudelo, Bunbury is best for NER.

My pre-weekend xG predictions:

Looking fairly spot on so far again. Basically can throw out the NE / DC game cause lol red cards, but pretty confident NER would have absolutely smashed them if it stayed even all game. Will update with Caleys post game xG graphs for comparison.

Thoughts on Andres Romero PK?

Anywhere else on the field it's a foul, but with the way nearly all refs call fouls in the box it was probably a soft call.

Was a little soft, its silly by the player to barge through him though.

Deserved win for mtl though. They look really good, though I much prefer oduro to mcinerny.

Oduro has only played about 4 matches up top and he was underwhelming in the other 3 until the RSL match last week where everyone looked good. I much prefer him as a RW as his finishing is just too erratic. He probably wouldn't have finished the shot that Jack scored on last night. Jack doesn't like playing as a lone forward, but he's starting to grow into the role and has been working a lot better with Piatti and co. He's also scored 5 goals in 7 appearances and I think he is talented enough to score at least once every 2 matches with the attacking talent around him.

There is such a logjam at the wings, I'm not really sure how to sort it. You have Romero, Duka, Mapp (when healthy), Oduro (when healthy), and Piatti is actually a wing playing out of position. Montreal still have 2 open DP slots and the only holes I can see are a ball-winning DM and an elite forward, maybe a true #10 if you want to move Piatti out wide. This team already looks damn good and they are at only about 70% due to injury, if management wants to add 2 DPs I think they can be the best team in the league.

Awful, awful PK call.

Yes, I'm biased to FCD but that's just such a blatant dive there.

predicting a real beat down here by NYRB

Ya I rate NYRB pretty high here, but good chance philly gets a goal as well. 2-1/3-1 likely prob.

Side note: i run unreal ****ing bad with subs/redcards/injuries. Of course kemar lawrence off 29 min in. Couldn't afford duvall without downgrading wynne and don't know how san jose is going to line up.

sounds like we have the same defense.

seriously though, dominate first half then come out and lay a turd in the second. awful.

Didn't see first half, but philly basically finished their two good chances well. Probably running really good.

Originally was going to go bingham since they were SLIGHTLY better for to win to nil so their gk had a higher ceiling, but had extra $ so upgraded to robles since he was way more likely to win outright so figured it was the safe option, and knew everyone else would have him.

Defense was pretty standard picks either wynne + lawrence or stewart + duvall (i didnt know if stewart would start so went lawrence). duvall / lawrence pretty even where as wynne is a good bit better than stewart in terms of points. Not many good forward options today if you wanted to play bwp (which was absolutely a must today IMO).
