Probably wouldn't work-MLB wants fri/sat/sunday series a that's not going to change imo. I'd love to see some 5 game sets and what you described but I don't think it works within the spectrum of what MLB seems to want

Gary Sanchez has the worst ability to catch/stop the ball in his glove that I've ever seen from a catcher

Has anybody caught before, is that like a hand eye tracking thing or like not being flexible in his crouch?

How about lining up 1-2-3 starters so that the week starts on Friday?

It's not like I think any good idea would be feasible to implement, MLB has enough trouble enacting change as it is lol.

Used to be that I loved the stats and history in baseball. Now I like watching tourney baseball more now than before. It's better in the way that hockey is better during the olympics/playoffs. There is a lot of drama on every pitch when the stakes are correct.

It would be fun to see the season broken into 3 segments. Schedule balance can be picked. After the first third of the season give out points based on standing. Reset standing and play out the 2nd portion, assigning requisite points for team win% overall and from each half.

Allstar break.

Final period is a round robin style. The top teams all play each other for seeding in the final playoff. The bottom teams all play for x amount of lower seeded playoff spots.

-Regular season series could be formatted as best of 5 or full 5 games series etc
-Do some stuff to fix the roster situation so that pitch counts/saving bullets for the long haul is less of a concern in a more structured/win now schedule
-Teams would be forced to be constructed so that they don't get whacked in longer series and 3 tourney's a year instead of shrug giving up and getting lost in the slog of a 30 team 162 game season. Hypothetically.

The one thing I noticed about Sanchez is that he reaches when the ball is bounced to his right instead of sliding over and dropping down.

Sanchez is a big boy back there, and I think he's either slow or lazy, but most likely he's just slow. Slow to react that's for sure.

Yeah watching him it does seem like he'll attempt the back handed stabbing action rather than instinctually drop and contain.

Earlier I heard that he had bulked up and that limited his motion, which I guess makes sense since last year he qualified as a good receiver to my eye test. He also missed a month because he hurt his biceps on a hard swinging whiff.

His actual catching ability is questionable enough to warrant asking if anyone else has noticed how inept he is. Like he will air ball or ricochet those back handed stabs. Or on a regular 98mph fastball the ball will just pop out of his mitt on a gag reflex

He will hold and attempt to frame in a way that looks unnatural, I wonder if he's thinking too much and not reacting to the heat. Or is it a way to protect himself, it's probably random but he's taken less of a beating back there than normal catcher suffering

/catching derail

If anyone has seen any recent ESPN games it's been a big issue and talked about, he's actually improved somewhat since he got benched for it

He can't be worse than Schwarber

Perhaps lol, but schwarbs is more tree trunk than mlb catcher

I'll bet you there is a more egregious and passionate YouTube montage of Sanchez's defensive follies (this may be close since your man broke himself playing D)

I'm just annoyed because tanaka is a front runner and Sanchez has bricked three pitches in this game

Maybe not overall, I'm pretty ignorant wrt framing stuff, but wow is he bad at keeping balls in front of him. He is so lazy with balls in the dirt, always trying to backhand them and not using his body. It's incredibly frustrating and has to affect pitchers trust in throwing those pitches.

Can't even accurately explain how fun it is to be at the stadium for this comeback.

Within the context of it being a mostly meaningless game vs the Padres.

Streaks, they all end. Kinda feel bad for Corbin. Pitched a lot better than his line shows. Lots of ground balls that made it through and broken bats that found holes. Back at it tomorrow.

How bad do I suck at the googling? Tigers hit a grand slam and turned a triple play in the same game. Looks like it was only the second time in MLB history? Seems like every crazy bizarre thing that happens the announcers say "that's the 137th time that has happened in major league history."

Yes definitely but it's not like prize indemnity insurance has anything close to fair vig.

I ran a simulation with Indians at -150.5 and found them hitting 15 almost 1% of the time. However, trying to calculate it with average odds is problematic because they play(ed) 24 straight against teams with fairly substantial negative run differentials, including 8 straight against lol CWS and DET.

It wouldn't surprise me if running it this way moves the probability up to around 2%, which equates to a neutral price in the $30k-$35k range, and I think $75k would be a fairly standard premium for that based on the markup I'm seeing for these hole-in-one insurance products.
