Rebuttal from chiefsplanet.com (admittedly I wasn't paying a lot of attention to the free agent market in 2012):

For every Hughes there is a Nolasco. Minn couldn't tell a diff and its doubtful we'd have. FYI Shields was the 13th best pitcher in MLB past two seasons and no FA option was even close to that.

Yeah citing Hughes there is huuuuuuge ROT. I guess the argument is because every once in awhile an undervalued FA blows up in a way that no one expects, paying guys that consistently put up that production is bad? Very weird thing to cite.

Twins signing Nolasco confirmed brilliant.

ugh, I'm not talking about Hughes specifically, but lets say you decide not to make the trade and use the money in free agency. In that case your EV of making the playoffs this year is probably slightly lower (even though Davis being worth 3war and Myers being replacement is a pretty huge outlier on their projections), but your EV of making playoffs in the next 5 years is much, much higher

My point is the logic is just flawed, I mean what if next year Rays win WS on the back of Odorizzi/Myers, the trade becomes bad again? And then good if they trade Davis for a super prospect who becomes the new Alex Gordon

An argument between that_pope and JAASH pretty much ensures that everybody is wrong.

really.

Is 2p2 even a poker forum anymore? Isn't the very first thing you learn on this board to not worry about what happens once, but to trust the process rather than the results? It's so obnoxious to just say "they made the 2nd round, worth trading away 24 years of cheap, high upside for 2 years of good and a guy that randomly got good".

Solid posting M_H.

I said the trade was a gamble, maybe even a bad gamble. But it worked out. We wouldn't have just had the best sports week in KC since 1985 w/o Shields and Davis.

I'm just telling you from the perspective of a Royals fan (and pretty much all of them I read online, even the sabermetrics guys like Rob and Rany) that we'll take the result ainec.

pretty hard to not biasedcat.wav, especially when the ends are apparently justifying the 29 year old means. The price for Samardzija this year was Stroman and Hutchison WHILE THE JAYS WERE IN FIRST PLACE. You could stick the Jays in the 2nd round and it's still a bad trade.

I think someone mentioned the scenario where the A's would fire Beane while the Dodgers fired Colletti giving Beane and the Dodgers a dream scenario. GG MLB

I can only sit here and wear my bitter smile at how God shines his light down on the Giants/Cards/Red Sox. It's ****ing insane how good these teams run every ****ing game I've ever watched them play.

I swear I can see the season ending with MLB canceling the ALCS, letting the Cards/Giants play for the World Series.... It goes to game 7 extra innings and both teams just lineup and shake hands and we have co World Series champions.

Both teams on the podium bro hugging eachother but oh wait... Who are they giving credit to? It's the ****ing Boston Red Sox who come out of the stands to join in the ****ing celebrating.

WE HAVE A ****ING TRI-CHAMPIONS GIANTS/CARDINALS/RED SOX!!!!

for once g10 , i 100% agree with you.. freaking team gets three runs on four hits.. talk about running good. i cant root for any of these two nl teams,, i kinda like the giants , and i hate the cardinals, yet its almost a lesser of two evils thing.. i hope the nats take it to a game 5 at least.

agreed, what good is it to keep stockpiling top talent , (that might not even fully work out) if you are always rebuilding because of the carousel that is having good inexperienced players come up with the groomed homegorwn talent leaving at the same time. it probably will be a bad move ITLR but im sure 99% of royal fans are signing up for this run for that trade .

its baseball, amazing how much run good you can have.

Atleast the Yankees had to fight for most of their victories when they were on their peak a couple seasons ago

JJ hardy just got extended for 3 years either at 40 mill or a little more. Orioles pushing for Cruz too.

Hardy signing is solid, but Cruz is a mistake imo
