hopefully larussa stops getting bailed out by ridiculously elite players being found like albert pujols and mark mcgwire and he's exposed for what he is

looked like it could have gone either way to me. but while we're on the subject. when did this fan interference clause start getting enforced? the pence double the other day was ruled an out. like they said on sunday night baseball at the time. how would baltimore fans feel if they had taken that view back in 1996 with jeffrey maier?

who gets his panties in a wad any time an opposing pitcher has the audacity to throw inside to his hitters.

They have a lot of wiggle room on the interference call, like they can rule it a HR/3B/2B/out depending on the replay, I think. That Cervelli shot would have been a double at least since it obviously wasn't going to be caught.

Then it'd be the same score but just have a 2 run hr instead of back to back solos

ok so can someone please explain to me the point of the hold stat? i just watched santiago casilla come in for the 9th inning in a save situation for the giants. he inherited orlando hudson on 1st. he strikes out his first batter and gets a line out to the second batter he faces. he then allows hudson to score courteousy of an anthony rizzo double off the top of the right field fence. he then procedes to go to 3-0 on cameron maybin before he hits him with a pitch. then for good measure he promptly hits jason bartlett with the next pitch to load the bases in a 6-4 game. bochy finally shows some commons sense and brings in ramon ramirez. rr strikes out jesus guzman earns the save and casilla is credited with a hold for hitting two batters and nearly giving up a 2 run homer. his pitching sequences to maybin and bartleet were just lol bad. missed the plate by 2 feet 3 times in a row and it didn't look like it was on purpose.

The "point" was to have a stat that measures the contributions of set-up men, similar to what the save does for closers, since set-up men have been becoming increasingly more valued. The stat does suck though obv, for the reasons you pointed out.

that the cardinals managed to miss the playoffs last year is a testament to the man's worthlessness

ok admittedly this is more of a fantasy baseball question (but this is a good place to hide it from prying eyes). it also fits with the hold question i just posed.

who do you think are the top 10 middle relievers/set up men in baseball?

here's my top 10 in no particular order

1) mike adams
2) david robertson
3) antonio bastardo
4) daniel bard
5) greg holland
6) sergio romo
7) johnny venters
8) sean marshall
9) vinnie pestano
10) tyler clippard

honorable mention: glen perkins, grant balfour, scott downs, koji uehara, joel peralta, and jason motte

notably absent from this list: joaquin benoit, rafael soriano, joba chamberlain, and aroldis chapman

i considered alburquerque and he had logged more innings i definitely would of added him to the honorable mention list. i think his main strike against him he just doesn't have a large sample size. only 37 career ip. another mark against is the 6.57 bb/9 rate, but i think i can live with that when you take into consideration his absolutely filthy 13.86 k/9 rate.

the guy is a pure flame thrower no doubt about it and i love the 0 hr allowed stat too. still, i don't think stability when i think alburquerque. i guess he just needs more time to develop a reputation.
