nvm Ryan was trolling. He just suggested that the AL derby squad should have Adam Dunn, Dustin Pedroia and Mark Reynolds.

I love how people act like it was such an easy call to make. Sure it's easy, after seeing 100 replays.

I have a question for all the stat guys itt, what is the difference between the best team defense and the worst team defense in terms of wins/losses and pitching stats like ERA (Does FIP do a good job of this ?)

theres prob about a 10 win true talent difference between the worst teams and the best teams in defense. so like 2/3rds of a run a game

if u look at a leaderboard the gap will be bigger for a given year (http://www.fangraphs.com/teams.aspx?...0&season1=2009) but the teams at the top prob ran good with UZR and the teams at the bottom prob ran bad

ya, pretty inconsistent. He called a ball on Rolen on the inside corner that was pretty clearly a strike 3. Then 2 pitches later one that was even further inside he rung him up, Rolen was pretty displeased to say the least.

And good lord, Chapman throwing 101 right down the **** for the game winning strike out was awesome

in somewhat related news, gehrig and i have been doing some work on the matchup machine. right now we have a platoon-adjusted machine which was a fair amount of work. however, our projections and methodology overestimate offense or underestimate pitching ability; it's tough to tell exactly what the problem is.

we also haven't done park adjustments (platoon adjusted) or home field advantage (different things) or a bunch of other things he thought of which is making this project actually a lot more difficult than i had originally planned

with all that said, here are some screenshots of two former cleveland pitchers projected against a mock lineup of the current indians

well that was thoroughly embarrassing when you consider offense is overstated

probably should have picked the tigers

anyway hope you enjoy the update and we hope to have something more polished to roll out perhaps after the ASB depending on how ADD we both are

Anyone who doesn't know who Mike Stanton is better look him up. He will break 700 home runs, I'm calling it.

Ok too soon, but this kid is special.
